Siri is worthless, and I tell her so.  All she says in response is "you are intitled to your opinion".  grrr  stupid siri.

Are the maps as crappy as everyone says?

Didn'T know about the Panorama upgrade, might be worth the upgrade... I was going to hold off.

I love the new maps because I can actually read the street names. 80% of the time I couldn't do that with the google maps. I also like being able to orient the map with my fingertips. The maps almost look like the old Microsoft Streets and Trips 2005 maps, I really liked that program. Pretty basic, easy to see and read, how do I get from A to B functionality. It's all I need in a map program, thumbs up..... so far.

I won't be upgrading my 4S to iOS6 until the next jailbreak is successful. (Or perhaps until I am sure I can properly back up and use a shsh blob to downgrade back to where I am now.)

I really like having the jailbreak. Mainly for SBSettings and ESPECIALLY for UserAgentFaker. (No more stupid 'mobile' sites!

Teejaay - 2012-09-27 4:51 PM I updated my 4S and the only thing I really cared about was the panorama feature for the camera on the phone. It's pretty darn slick. I take a lot of pics with my phone so it was worth it. Had no issues at all with the update other than I should have cleaned out my no longer used apps in the iTunes library first. It loaded them back to my phone along with the ones my daughter had on her phone. No data lost though.

Did you need an app for the panoramic? I upgraded for the panoramic too but couldn't figure it out without an app.  I downloaded Photosynth but it takes multiple pix and pastes them together, rather than the continuous picture shoot like on the commercial.

Personally I'd say it's all about the maps.  The other features are nice upgrades and worth it, but the maps seems to be the only sticking point.  The new apple maps program does have turn by turn, but it doesn't have street view and the mapping is still a little buggy.  The 3d maps feature is really cool on the new phone, but I still like google street view better.

So, if I were in your shoes I'd go to the apple store and spend some quality time with the new map software on the iphone 5 and see if you like it or not.  Search for several places you commonly go to.

Based on the results of the test you should feel a lot more confident about upgrading or not.

I kind of agree with tuwood & Aaraon's posts.  I upgraded and didn't see much difference.  IMO the maps isn't quite as good as Google maps, but my biggest complaint is that Apple Maps doesn't have "street view" which I really liked.  I highly recommend MapQuest for turn-by-turn GPS and I always use that for navigation and consider it one of my best apps.

So unless you live and die by Google Maps, my vote is to upgrade just to stay current.

The one perk I WAS hoping to get out of the upgrade that Apple did list as a "feature" in the upgrade is improved battery life.  I have to laugh because they always list that in every upgrade notice, but yet I NEVER notice any improvements.  I refer to that as techno-trickery on Apple's part......BRILLIANT!!

I upgraded my 4s.  The new map doesn't bother me, and I kind of like the VIP mail contact list.  But since upgrading, I am constantly getting kicked off safari.  A few other apps have been closing on me too, but safari is by far the worst.

Still, after reading the responses and talking to other folks - I have no plans to update my iphone4 (not a 4S). For the iphone4 here just doesn't seem to be much of an upside and a lot of possible downsides (apps crashing, maps, slower, etc...) Plus, it seems to me that most of the updates don't apply to the iphone4. If it's not broken - don't fix it.

Had several appts all around town today.  This is when I'd use Google Maps to find their place of work and best way to get there.

Today's score:  Apple Maps 1/7.  Google Maps (even the crappy web version) 7/7.

It's just unusable.
