Comments:

The plan was to take it easy for the first lap, then see how much I could push things on the second lap. I knew I had a pretty good chance for a PR at this race due to the flat course. My 10k PR was 1:07:30, set at this race 2 years ago. The race was smaller this year, I think in part due to the chilly morning and also because of the MO' Cowbell half marathon and 5k on Sunday morning.

I started towards the back and settled into a nice pace for the first loop. A little faster than usual for me but it was a comfortable pace. I tried to stay right behind two ladies who were running about the same pace as I was. I figured as long as I stayed with them, they'd pull me right along to the finish. I finished the first loop in just under 34 mins - about a minute slower than I had hoped but a PR was still possible if I could pick things up a bit on the second loop. The fourth mile went well but I slowed down on the fifth and lost the 2 ladies I was following. I tried to catch back up but they had picked up their pace a little more than I could match. Once I hit the 5 mile marker, I knew I only had a little over a mile to go so I started to push things a bit. I could see the flag and the finish banner ahead so just kept going. When I got close enough to see the timing clock, I tried to find that little extra - I was going to get that new PR! Crossed the line with the clock showing 1:07:13, chip time was actually 1:06:58 so PR by 32 seconds!
Post race
Warm down:

Got some water and a bagel while DH went to the car to get my sweatshirt. I knew I would start to get chilled pretty quick. Walked around a bit then headed for home. Should have stayed for the awards - I ended up with 3rd in my AG:)
