Pre-race routine:

I got to the Park at 4:45 am thinking I would be getting in line, the GATE had not opened yet, pitch black! first one to race day! didn't know where to park as none of the parking attendents had not gotten there yet, yikes! Met my first racer, Cezar, he guided me through the pre-race issues, THANKS CEZAR, he and I were in same class and same age, his help was pricless. Set up my transition area, got a spot on the end of the closest rack to the T1/T2/finsh area, this made the early rise worth it. Ran into friends, that I had not seen for while, (found out where they were). Great scene, great weather, great people.
Event warmup:

rode bike around little, swam a little, stayed very hydrated
Swim
  • 13m 18s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 40s / 100 meters
Comments:

Very excited, little nervious, goggles broke 10 stokes into race, could not see under water anyway, did not get comfortible in free style, lots of touching on legs, ended up breast stroke most of way, kept hr down and was easy to navigate
What would you do differently?:

practice swimming more, to build up stamina, overall just need to get better at swimming!
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

Had hard time pulling down bike shirt, but needed little rest, too tired from swim!
What would you do differently?:

set up transition area little different, be better aware of how bike shirt goes on.
Bike
  • 42m 22s
  • 13 miles
  • 18.41 mile/hr
Comments:

most comfortible part of race, lost 1 water bottle though, need to practice drinking on bike, stomach did not want to take too many fluids, used to hydro pack in training, so bottles were not the norm.
What would you do differently?:

figure out how to hydrate better, longer, with ease, looking into hydration options, did not like grabbing from lower bar, may go with aero bottle, or, behind seat mount.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

did not know how close I could ride to my trans. area, ran in , so no penalities, great ride, felt good.
What would you do differently?:

work on speed without empying tank, work on calmness, adjust bike for more comfort as aero bars were new and needed more saddle time for fine adjusting.
Run
  • 32m 12s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 10m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

transition went well but I was concerned that I would have to stop, main goal of race was not to stop, found runner with slow pace, stayed with them, until end, then when I new I was close, I hammered it to the finish.
What would you do differently?:

get my own pace and have confidence with it, believe that I will not stop and finish race!
Post race
Warm down:

stunned, shocked, happy, relieved, proud, held my son after finish, jumped into lake for cool down, did some strtching in lake, ate protien bar, and finally could take some fluids

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my fitness level, never doing a trathlon before, not knowing the course, concerned of not stopping or not finishing.

Event comments:

just need to keep trying the tri's, 3 more in this series, so my bench mark has been set! I am HOOOOOOKED!
