Saw signs yesterday that on May 7th repaving the road will begin and cover the section from Mile 3 to first right at about Mile 4.

OH HAPPY DAY!!!!  because the outside 4-5 feet were crap.

Your right the run course is no longer on the Rockman web site. This could be d/t some minor changes being made. I am going to try and talk with the Race Director to find out if changes have been made. For now here is a map of what most of the run will be from my understanding.

You actually run out to Minns road (just before Harlem) turn around
Take the bike path north along Perryville to Hart road turn right and head back into the park. Hart road is paved.
Go out to the north parking lot (just south of 173) and turn around and head to the campground.
In the campground you will run all the way to the entrance of the tent camping area and make a left follow the road along the lake into the Group camping area. Turn around at the end of this road and head back to the main road and to the finish.

There may be a few minor changes to the run but this is the basic run course that Chip has planned. I will be running it on Saturday morning if anyone is interested. More details will follow. There will also be a group riding the bike course. Below is a massage from Chip the race director:

The next RockMan Sports training day on the course will be Saturday May 26th. Hammer Nutrition "Heed" as well as water, bars, banana's, bagels and other food will be available at no cost.

We will again meet at Olsen Lake around 7:00am – only this time Beach Watch Ltd. will have life guards on hand and the water will be open for swimming prior to the bike. All swimmers will be required to pay a minimal fee to swim (this fee will be less than $5.00). All swimmers are asked to bring their own wet suit as well as a BRIGHT swim cap for the lifeguards to keep track of us all. Fresh water showers are on site to rinse off after the swim if you would like.

After swimming we will head out on the RockMan bike course as a group. We would prefer that the group NOT break apart until after we turn right onto Brown Rd. from Caledonia Rd. (about 1.75 miles from the park). On race day the course will be closed until this point – until then this is a medium traffic area. The bike course is fully marked now – all are free to ride whatever distance they would like.

Post ride run is also personal desire. The run course will by then be marked mile to mile. We cannot leave anything permanent in the state park for obvious reasons.

Hope this helps,

Tom

I had a slow swim 45 mins due in part to the weeds. My bike went well 2:38. I suffered on the run due to nausea from mile 5 to the finish. Run 1:53. I did PR with 5:22:50. I was riding with the lead women at the end of the bike they were tough. Overall I enjoyed the race. I think they did well for a first year event. The run while hilly was mostly shaded and very scenic running through the State Park.

tri-xcs I think you might been coming in off the run as I was coming in from the bike. Yep that was terribly slow but I never done that long of a distance before. ONly thing I really did not like about the bike couse was around mile 10 there was a group of hills all in arow and that was not so much fun. Also the stop warning really hurt.

I was wearing a Hammer Tri top and bottom. You can see a picture of me in the picture link I sent with my last post.

chirunner134 this was a tough race for your first half IM distance the fact that you were out there taking on the challenge is great.

Yes Free Church road is tough. But most of the bike was flat

Also the stop warning really hurt.

did you get this on the bike?

Good job to everyone who competed yesterday!!

I was out cheering on my friend and my sister's boyfriend. While I was there, I "met"
TuPuppy, as he was sporting a BT racing top...

Beautiful Day!

I heard the run was a bear, so congrats to everyone.

tri-xcs - if the run course had another mile or so, you would have ran past me to the finish. I finished just ahead of you. Awesome bike and run splits! And again, great pictures. I'm in the picture where Chip's explaining the swim start while wearing a clown suit. I'm the confused guy on the right staring at the lake.

tupuppy - good to see you again before the race. i looked for you on the course and after the race, but didn't. hope you had a great race.

chirunner - i was there. i may have seen you as you're coming in for the run finish. i was the guy on the bike leaving the park that was congratulating you. awesome job!

slowdad if there was another mile on the run I would still be out there. I died over the last few miles and felt sick. But it was a PR and I will take that.

Check out this video coverage of Rockman from our local Rockford News:

Rockman News Video . http://mystateline.com/content/sports

Go down to "Sports Top Stories" and click on the video for "Endurance Test." There is also another video called "new triathlon Sunday" Check them out.

yeah I was the guy who came in when ever one else was gone and the place was pretyt much packed up. A few races were just living as I came in. If the guy who saw was tall wear a white hat and looked very sick that was me .

yeah I had people who I camped with stopping and tell me great job. All the competors were very supportive as they were leaving.

at mile 7 on the run they said sorry no more water and would I like to get a ride back with them. the RD (atleast I think it was him ) was like I can not make you stop choice it up to you. This was on the road to through that equatrain section. Mile 12 stop was open by the time I got there.

The support van was basicly following me and this other guy up to the end. He quit though around mile 44 I beleive. I did take breaks a few times at the water stops. I was tired but I felt even 2 minutes off the bike helped alot. I have to learn how to drink on the bike.

Tom I think you can see me in one of those pics. I am the really tall guy walking to the water I beleive. I am hard to miss and really one of the few really big guys out there. I think you can almost see my bike on the new shot but not sure. I put my bike close to the rockman sign. I will have to put up some of my pictures I took soon.

Were you sitting on a chair near the finish reading a book?  If so, that was me feeding the little one year old some yogurt.

Ok, I remember the dog.  I wish we had known it was you, we would have introduced ourselves.  We were the obnoxiously loud people by the ambulance and finish line with the little kids running around with ice attacking each other and the loud cowbells that are still ringing in my head.  There was also a Weimeraner (sp?) and a Greyhound there as well.

besides the no gun at the start and the 10lbs of seaweed i had to drag on the swim this race was awesome, perfect placement of aid stations on the bike and especially on the run. roads were really smooth, and the RD even wore a clown suit, i give it a 8/10, would have been 10/10 if I would have gotten a tee-shirt, my wardrobe is getting dangerously low!

I do wish they had a finsiher's medal but that is me. I am a medal . Most people were so excited for me because I been able to do something they could not do. Makes me feel good from people who run 50 milers.

I forget how much the race was but I would paid more if it ment I got a finisher medal. T - shirt would been nice but since I can only fit in about 2 of my race t shirts it does not matter so much to me.

I agree with you for a few extra $$ T-shirts would have been nice.

I hope all of you did get the Rockman finishers bumper sticker.

Go to my Rockman pictures to see a picture of the bumper sticker.
