I drove the course yesterday, and rolling hills was an understatement. There was a lot of bad pavement, and the hills were long and gradual at the beginning, then choppy after about 10 miles, then about 40-42 miles, the pavement gets better and back to flat with gradual hills. My forecast would be to leave some in the tank and make it up on the last 20%.

Also, the site says something about teh beautiful fruit country and all... what crap. Not to sound bad, or anything, but it felt like the third world crossed with tobacco road. Don't worry about spectators in that neck of the woods. I might bring mace. ;-)

Bike check in is on Friday. If anybody wants to get together, pm me.

Gannon

Temperatures keep climbing. They're now saying a high of 83 and mostly sunny Saturday.

I'll plan to drive the bike route Friday afternoon. Anyone else want to meet up for that?

Good.  Trix and I went out and rode in the butt-a$$-africa-sauna-kiln-fired heat this Sunday, just to see.  83 will feel like a cakewalk compared to that center-of-the-earth-greenhouse-deepfryer-sweat-off-a-japanese-sumo day.

Boy, I'm not ready.

Gannon - thanks for the recap; that's good stuff.  I think I just talked myself out of driving the course; if it's choppy, all i'm gonna learn is "it's choppy".  So now I've gotta pay attention...OK, check.

I'll PM ya, I think there are a few of us that are going to do bike check around 4 - we'll leave Detroit around noon or 1, be there by 4 and checking in.  We'll catch up with you, if for no other reason to see who the hell is under the stormtrooooooper suit.  Heh.

We plan to be in town by very early afternoon.

Anyone want to come up with a "secret handshake" for Friday afternoon/evening.

Saturday should be a little easier. Look for the middle-aged (I guess that's right) guy wearing the BT tri-shorts and a yellow jersey. I'll probably be going slow enough for easy identification.

Ok, the for the weather. The heat wave is supposed to break. Right now it's 94 w/a heat index of 114. Winds are 20 knots and we have 4-5 foot waves.

Saturday it supposed to be a high of 85 with the a temp of 75 at start time. Best news is the humidity levels around 50% which is so much better. Wind out of the NW at 5 mph with less than 1 foot waves. I'll be at the first bike aid station on M63. See you all there!

Thanks, I might try. Were are you all meeting? Also, we had some really wicked storms here all night long. Was down at the beach earlier and the water had to be around 80. After all the storms the lake might flip which could cause a big difference in water temp.

Greetings All! I'm BAMBAM66 and married to McFuzz. It is his fault that I'm entertaining notions of doing tri's next year. I will be volunteering on Friday (along with the 13y/os) at registration. No idea what I'll be wearing at that point (if you ask my hubby he might tell you a tablecloth --never mind that will come later at the parties

OK all,

We've got suggestions for Santaniellos (Gannon), Mansion Grill & Clementines (Paul). Hopefully, we can still find a place to accommodate a group.

If most people are going through check-in 4ish, and want to check into the hotel after, would 7 PM work for dinner?

Paul/Gannon, I'm willing to go with any of these suggestions. I'd expect we could have 10-15 people pretty easily since some of us are traveling with families. Make a call, post the details, and hopefully, the rest of us will respond with numbers. (I'll go with first to post details.)

Mike

Called Clementines and it didn't sound good. They said they don't take reservations, and if you come, come early. Santinello's (sp?) is the same. We may have a problem finding room for that size group on short notice. Santinello's did say they would set up a private room if we could guarentee 25.

Get off I94 at the Second New Buffalo Exit, which is #3 I think. Take to Red Arrow Highway and take the scenic route to Saint Joe. Much nicer, and won't be hardly any traffic.

Hey everyone, that was a great time. How did everyone do? I had a blast at the aid station. Wow, there were a lot of racers. Working the event was a real insperation. I'm looking forward to training for my first race. However, I probably won't be ready and summer will be over. Might have to look for a race in Florida over the winter?

Thanks all for the support. I for one had a great experience. Finished in 6:17:45, which was a little over my goal, but I had great swim and bike splits.

Thanks Lisazapato, for coming over to cheer us on, and Pbpunisher for volunteering.
