Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It is more than likely that you will swallow some water. I always chew a very strong piece of peppermint gum and spit it out before I get into a salt water swim. This at least kills most of the bad taste.
Thanks for this tip! Will definitely be making use of very strong peppermint gum! |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kaburns1214 - thanks for the valuable info...since that last post - I have ordered, recieved and tested Infinit Custom...I really liked it. So, I'm not going to use the Perpeteum afterall. I really like the nuun for my run...but, I certainly don't want to be looking for a bush in the middle of my run! I've used it for all my sprint races...haven't noticed a problem...but this is a different monster...I've used the GU Brew...is that any better?? |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() uhcoog - 2013-03-13 9:04 AM Yeah. It's still in the 40s here in the morning. I'd guess in a month it will still be very comfortable for racing. Hoping the wind dies down a little between now and then. HOLY CRAP! I have to jump in the water when its 40s outside??? I thought everyone complained about how hot this race was!!! Maybe last year was unusual??? Thanks everyone...off to ski in Colorado for the next week...I'll be on the blues - don't want to risk hurting myself!! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It will get warm in the afternoon, and after thinking about it I'll say it's always more mild on the island than the mainland. Today was a low in the 60s and high in the low 70s on the island with a 14mph wind. Hoping the temp stays similar but the wind dies down a bit. |

New user ![]() | ![]() Sound like a good food plan. Add salt pills. ElectroSalt made by Energy Lab Nutrition are fantastic. The company is based in The Woodlands and the owners are both Ironman veterans. What's in the energy bites? Have you posted the recipe? Yes the wind is going to be a facot, but it's not horrible. Very manageable for 56 miles. Its a flat ride. Be thankful it's not IMTX. I've never had a jump off the deck and tread water start before...should I be practicing this?Practice is always good. But since you'll be in a wet suit it won't be tough. You'll float so easily. If you take in lots of saltwater, have a water bottle to drink a few ounces to dilute it in T1. Rinse your hair with the rest. Good luck. It's a good race. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am going to be cancelling a reservation for Friday and Saturday at Moody Gardens race weekend. I don't know if it will work, but I will notify the first person who PM's me that they would like the room of when I will call and cancel it. Like I said I'm not sure if it will work because they may have overbooked but it couldn't hurt someone to try or me to offer the attempt. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey all. This will be my first HIM. I have been battling ITB issues after a new tri bike in the new year messed up my run due to weak glutes. So, I may need one of you to carry me on your back/shoulders for the run. Any takers? |

I've also found with people who don't like the taste of perform on course that mixing perform and water together at aid stations helps it go down easier. Its always easiest to use what's on course (unless its Hammer then I bring my own). |

Train 11-12 months out of the year outside. You can schedule visits to snow, you don't have to live in it. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Since its slow here in the office today and we are now less that 2 weeks away .. lets have some fun Bib# 761 Male 40-44 Swim wave #7 at 7:30 3rd time racing Galveston .. 5:13 is my best time, hoping to knock that down in the 5:0x this year.. How about the rest of you? Lets see who our AG competition is |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Not so sure I'm much competition in my AG/gender...this is my first HIM. I, too, am more concerned about having fun and finishing. But, I do have goals based on training times... Bib No: 1721 Gender: Female 35-39 Swim Start: 14, 8:05am (yea, another flourescent pink cap) Training Times: 38-40 minute swim - so I set my goal time at 45 mintues (I've never swam in salt water and I wanted to be realistic about this) T1: 3:45 or less 3:38-3:42 bike - but, I think I can do this faster down there with no hills...we only have routes with climbs around here...but, I'm also cognizant of the winds (again, I've been training in 15-30 mph winds here) - Hoping for 3:30. T2: 2:00 or less 2:05-2:07 run - don't think I'll be able to keep that pace...so I'm hopin for a 2:20-2:25 run. Total : Like to be under 7...but mostly, just want to finish my first HIM! Hoping to love it enough to keep me training like mad for my first full ironman. Put together my race plan yesterday...and mentally going over it anytime I'm at a red light or standing in line! Have fun everyone! BTW - left my bag of infinit at the condo while skiing in Vail last week...great way to practice fueling/nutrition, though. See ya'll there!! Tammy

The 6:20 was a race that went horribly wrong and resulted in a trip to the hospital. Went 5:06 last year with a horrible leg cramp that cost me about 10' on the run. So I plan on getting that 10' back this year. So 4:55 is where I'm thinking/hoping. |

I'm not sure how I'll take the salt tabs since it has only been 10-35 or so degrees here. Do you all do about 1 tab every half hour? |
