Swim
Comments: I came out of the water in about 14 minutes and was stunned at my time. I must have zig zagged all over the lake, I really can't swim this slow. I had a bad case of the right turns during warm-ups and I did find myself correcting in the water a lot, but I had no idea it was this bad.It was actually an easy swim and I came out reasonably fresh, so I can only blame navigation. What would you do differently?: I think my form was off after two weeks out of the water, which caused the crooked swim. I need to get back in the pool. Transition 1
Comments: This was long due to spending some time getting the considerable amount of dirt off my feet that had collected on the way to T1, I didn't rush. What would you do differently?: Move faster. Bike
Comments: I could have pushed harder on the bike, which has been the case in all of my races. For some reason, I tend to hold back and ride with the people in front of me until someone faster comes along and I pick it up and ride with them. Maybe I just get lonely out there. More likely, I just haven't found or let myself believe what I'm capable of. I have a pet peeve. Being a big boned person, I tend to be slow uphill and very fast downhill. Uphill, I politely hug the white line and allow faster competitors to pass. Downhill, those same competitors are all over the road and I can't get by. At high speeds, I think the wind drowns out my "on your left", and the people in front of me seem to believe that because they are doing 32 mph there is no way anyone could catch them. I found myself coasting and even braking several times on the longer downhill sections while the riders up front were weaving across the lane. What would you do differently?: Go faster. Transition 2
Comments: Not bad, I wasn't eager to get to the run. Run
Comments: I told myself I would run up the hills even if I had to do a sidestep up, but I couldn't. The hamstring just quit on me. So I walked uphill and ran the rest. Unfortunately, there was a lot of uphill. I have an "internalional distance race" in five weeks and I can't really run at all. I had thoughts of finding another hobby during this run, but the struggle is part of the alure. What would you do differently?: Heal and run. Post race
Warm down: Bend over and breathe. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm overweight and hurt. Last updated: 2006-06-24 12:00 AM

Drove to the race, didn't eat. I was tired from lack of sleep.
Swam to the first bouy and back a couple of times while waiting for the race to start.
