Total Time = 1h 13m 41s
Overall Rank = 74/500
Age Group = M 35-39
Age Group Rank = 16/58
Pre-race routine:

Drove the hour and a half down to the race site. Ate a granola bar and drank a Boost meal replacement on the way down.
Event warmup:

None really. Seems like everytime I turned around I was bumping into someone that I knew (my own fault). So I didn't swim or anything..not really a big deal though.
Swim
  • 13m 22s
  • 656 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

This includes the uphill run to the transition area over gravel and sticks. I was actually out of the water in 12 and some change which is still slow. I think the course might have been a little long.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more. I have been to the pool exactly twice in the last month.
Transition 1
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

We had to run out of T1 and down another little hill before the mount line. Still took too long here though.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get used to riding and running without socks. I just like wearing socks though.
Bike
  • 36m 18s
  • 12.8 miles
  • 21.16 mile/hr
Comments:

Hammered on the bike. My average was pulled down by the hill at the beginning and the one comming out of the turn around. My tri bike climbs like a pig! I felt good with this ride though. The time included a run out of and back into the transition area of about 100yards.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more. That training stuff (or lack of it) is starting to catch up with me.
Transition 2
  • 00m 45s
Comments:

In and out...this was a good T2
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 21m 58s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I had an ok run. Was shooting for something around the 20 minute range. It was so humid on the run it was hard to breathe in a couple of areas.
What would you do differently?:

Train (sounds familiar right?). I have got to hit the track and get my run down to the 18 minute mark to be competative in my age group at these bigger races. There are just too many fast guys out there.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some water and chatted with friends that had already finished (sorry fast bastards!!!!) and cheered on my other friends as the finished.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training. If you look at my logs you can see how my training can be described as sporadic as best. For doing a race this competative on basically residual training I am pretty happy. It just shows me that to play with the big boys I have to work harder.

Event comments:

BlueSky sports puts on the best race series around. I really enjoy doing their races. You know that they are always going to be exactly as advertised.

Nice race, Brett! You're crazy fast, even with "not enough training"! It's amazing to me that your run leg can be 21 minutes and you're still saying that you aren't fast enough. Wow!

Oh, and Happy Anniversary!

Brett it was good to meet you. I would be very happy with your times but I'm going to need a lot more training and races to get there.

Great race and it was good to see you! I am looking forward to the next one! You should have a new baby by the next tri the parks race. Are you going to do it?

Great race, and good to see you again. I wish my pig climbed half as fast as yours.

Awesome job, Brett. So the key to going so fast is to slack on training, right?! Kidding - way to go out there!

Great race...  I know what you mean about having trouble breathing on the run.  I had the same problem starting right after the first turn-around.  That's the first time that has happened to me during a race of anykind.
