Kido - 2013-02-05 5:58 PM Wow, a bunch of frugal people!  I guess you were saving it for tri gear?

I didn't want for this to be a judgmental thread, just curious on other people's experiences. Money is so personal, and we all prioritize how we spend it differently. No one's story is better or worse.

Who's judging?  I don't care what people do.  You realize this is the capital of cheap drive through weddings, right?  Most people I know do that and it's a great time.

IDK, saying "what a bunch of frugal people" seemed a little off color. Perhaps I misunderstood the intent.

I didn't take it as "off-colored".  Frugalness is based of what one wants to do, or due to the financial circumstances (as in how it was for my wife's and my case).

Tri take me away & I got married 2 months ago for about $15-1700 and that includes clothes for the kids. We booked the middle of the week, in the afternoon. We purchased a two hour elopement package and negotiated a few minor details. We she found her dress on consignment for $300, my attire cost less than $100. We ordered a cake for $60. It was just us and the four kids. Simple, stress free and VERY affordable.

To some that might acutally be a compliment.  Frugal does not have to equate to cheap.

If anything, I thought people might judge those who spent more, not those who spent less.

Right, IF I were to judge, it might be the same way I look at people on Bridezilla or Sweet 16.  100's and 100's of thousands of dollars with over the top everything and STILL not happy.  But hey, if they have it, good for them if want to spend it on that.

As a side note. per the interwebz dictionary (and how I meant it), "The definition of frugal is not spending a lot of money and not being wasteful."

Why would I negatively judge people for NOT being wasteful?  They should be commended.

We had a great wedding, which was by far the best day of my life until last summer when our daughter was born.

It was outside overlooking the ocean, with a tent set up for the reception after. Total cost was probably around 10K but to be honest, we didnt really keep track. We had a pig roast for dinner, and made the rest of the food ourselves  (baked potatoes, coleslaw, buns, etc etc) My father in law set up all the audio equipment, and we had a little bit of an open mic night after dinner.

We felt like we did pretty good, comparing to many of our friends weddings.

You had my dream wedding!!! Sounds wonderful!!

It was pretty awesome! I am a little biased though!

just wanted to post up a link for our photographer here, for anyone wedding planning to check out, she is based in Western Canada (Calgary). Very reasonable and by far the best photographer I have ever seen.  Check out some of her Photos, they are amazing!
