Anyone know of MTB trails that tend to dry out sooner rather than later?

Buffalo Creek
Bear Creek Lake Park
Green Mountain...sometimes it can be the worst mud around

I'm seeing a lot of people out on the new fat bikes. No thanks...I'm skiing!

There's a good thread on mtbr where everyone posts trail conditions - I've found it pretty useful:

I think Bear Creek and Green Mountain are a pretty safe bet. Three Sisters was actually dry a few weeks ago, but I feel like that may not always be the norm. I've been riding the lower trails at Elk Meadow, but anything up in the trees is snowy/icy right now.

Oh, and fyi, I was just talking to some people yesterday who said Buffalo Creek is pretty snowy/icy right now, and that they've been riding White Ranch a lot because it's all dry.

It doesn't take much moisture to make Green Mtn a sticky mess but Bear Creek is probably ok.  My guess is that you'll probably hit some snow & ice in the shady /north facing spots on some of the foothill trails (LOTB, Waterton/CO Trail/Indian Creek, Mt Falcon, Apex, etc.) but they'd probably be ridable.  I haven't been out on them though so I couldn't say for sure.  I've heard of some Highlands Ranch trails too, but I haven't ridden them and I've heard they're supposed to be residents only. But I'd bet they're dried out too.  I'd guess the Rt 93 trails up by Boulder and Rabbit Mtn are clear as well.

Thanks.  I'm looking for something within 30 minutes driving time so some of these will work for me.

Most of the Highlands Ranch backcountry trails are resident only, though I've never been stopped out there.  Right now they are a snowy, muddy mess.  The trails are not technical but there is a lot of up and down and they are a ton of fun to ride, especially when I can be on them in a half mile from my door.

Half a mile but you don't count as a resident?  That's a bummer.  I live over by Green Mtn & I'm pretty sure Bear Creek should be ok.  Until tonight anyway.

No I am a resident.  Just saying I've never been asked for my HRCA card while riding.  They tend to focus more on the trails east of Monarch Road as they are more "nature sensitive."

Hey Todd, check out the ridgeline trail in Castle Rock. It's all single track with not much shade so the trails dry up pretty quick. It's got a lot of switch backs and interconnecting trails. With some good steep climbs that aren't too long. I think they have a race there every year called the Ridgeline rampage.http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=718649

Have to check those out.  That race is in April and I'm thinking about it!
