Pre-race routine:

got up at 5, packed up the car hit the road. Ate half a bagel with peanut butter and a clif bar on the way. Got race number 69 :) drank a bottle of water while setting up transition.
Event warmup:

It was already getting hot enough out so I didn't want to waste any energy.
Run
  • 28m 55s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

had my fastest 3 mile run ever but I paid for it during the rest of the race.
What would you do differently?:

go out slower and keep the heartrate down
Transition 1
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

smooth transition did everything I wanted to with no problems
What would you do differently?:

bring my camelback and put it on you'll see why later
Bike
  • 54m 32s
  • 16 miles
  • 17.60 mile/hr
Comments:

felt real strong on the bike. On my last few training rides I got comfortable drinking from my water bottle so I left the camelback at home. Of course I dropped my only water bottle 4 miles in Doh! :o The heat didn't really bother me on the bike but I never really got my heart rate to settle down. The jelly belly sport beans in my bento box did help keep me from cramping up though.
What would you do differently?:

Not drop my water bottle
Wear by camelback
NOT DROP MY WATER BOTTLE
Transition 2
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

took a drink from the bottle I left in transition remembered my garmin this time :)
What would you do differently?:

Bring my fuelbelt and use it. Why have this stuff then not use it? Stupid, stupid, stupid
Run
  • 36m 12s
  • 3 miles
  • 12m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

Not getting enough to drink on the bike really F'd me up. I was able to run the first 3/4 mile then went into the survival shuffle. Was able to run
What would you do differently?:

bring my fuel belt
not drop my water bottle on the bike
Post race
Warm down:

Got into the shade dumped water on my head and tried to get rehydrated. Stuck around to check the results

What limited your ability to perform faster:

dropping only water bottle on bike in the first 4 miles.
my weight though it's finally coming down :)
THE HEAT
dehydration

Event comments:

Did I mention to not drop my water bottle on the bike?

Hey, sounds like you had a good race (well, except for the last run) - yeah, if you don't have hydration on these mid-summer TBF races you really, really pay on the last part of the race.

Good job!  (See, I'm impressed with the run/bike/run thing - I don't think I could stand to run twice in one race...)

Here's a tip: Don't drop your water bottle.   - but I think you figured that one out already...

Good job challenging this course again. It was much hotter, you didn't have adequate hydration, and you still came within a couple minutes of your finish time from last time. Awesome! You HAVE to come back and show them what you can do on this course next month. I'll look forward to the race report.
