Multirace
82F / 28C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 03m 43s
Overall Rank = 15/89
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 4/12
Pre-race routine:

Had to get up at 4:00 AM since it's over 45 minutes to this place. Bob and I got the van packed with the bikes, helmets, etc. Coffee of course was important before we left.

Got to the race site before the packet pickup line got too long (YAY!). Got transition set up and chatted with friends.
Event warmup:

Tiny little bike ride just to make sure the bike was running okay. Did some little jogs and a few short sprints. Went into the ocean about 5 minutes before race time to tune up and make sure the goggles were set right.
Swim
  • 08m 41s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

OMG! Wouldn't you know it? My goggles screwed up again! I had to fix them in the first 20-30 meters and then was stuck in the middle of a HUGE pack. Took until most of the way to the final turning buoy in before I could break clear to swim a decent rhythm.
What would you do differently?:

Either make TRIPLE sure the goggles are a tight seal or just suck it up and not try to fix it during the race.
Transition 1
  • 02m 6s
Comments:

Long T1 time was because it was a long run up the beach just to get to the transition area.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Very happy.
Bike
  • 29m 4s
  • 10 miles
  • 20.64 mile/hr
Comments:

As soon as we got up and over the bridge, we had a one-lane width to make a U-turn to go up it again. Had to coast down the hill just so I could get the gearing right for the uphill with ABSOLUTELY no momentum. Coming back over and down the return trip, I hit over 32 MPH!! WHEEEE!!!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I'm happy with how I did.
Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

I couldn't be happier with my transitions. I was fastest in my age group for both transitions (this race director calculates the transition places too).
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 23m 5s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

I was just happy to finish the run. My run training is still minimal and the bridge was brutal. I'm very happy for the shape I'm in right now.
What would you do differently?:

When I can train at full tilt again, I know I'll blow this time away!
Post race
Warm down:

Took it easy, did a lot of walking.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Minimal run training, no hill training.

Event comments:

I'm very happy overall with everything. These races are as much a social event as a competition and I always enjoy chatting with my tri-buddies.

Congrats on a great race!  It feels good when you have a good race and you know the training is paying off!  Thanks for the note BTW!

I did this race last year and swore I'd never do it again. I hated the race (probably the quick turn on the bridge that did me in).  You're so stinking fast lady.

My husband did it as well and still chuckles at the memory of running up the bridge and someone breathing strong and steady comes up behind him and as he passes dear hubby looks down to see he's being passed by a 74-year-0ld
