or
We are the Champions...

for some reason, Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting came to mind...maybe that could be used for the wave start! ha ha!

I don't know who the artist is but 'I got the power'... dance music...but good beat to it.

Wicked Witch of the West theme from Wizard of Oz. I often hum that song while I'm riding hard.

Depends on your audience. It's hard because many of the songs posted above will elicit a strong response from people, either positive or negative. IMO it's best to play something that most people wouldn't recognize, but suits the high energy mood of what you're showing.

Right now I'm really digging RJD2's 2004 album Since We Last Spoke when I'm running. It's on the iTunes store if you're looking for samples. The album ranges all over the place, so it's best to sample all the songs before judging. I especially like the track Exotic Talk, but the iTunes sample doesn't do it any justice. It's missing the main riff of the song, which is what really makes it a standout for me.

I like the Gnarls Barkley suggestion, but I'd avoid Crazy because of it's popularity and overplayedness. There are a few other tracks on the album that are just as good, if not better. Actually scratch that... my faves are Just a Thought and Necromancer... if anyone was listening to the lyrics it might not fit so well. Suicide and necrophilia are probably not very triathlon-y.

My Dad is a film editor...he calls himself a videographer.  Whatever the case, he is always looking for music to go with his videos.  One thing I have learned from his is to try to find something that will fit with the moment.  I remember he once made a video of my son's t-ball team and put Herb Albert and the Tijuana Taxi doing that song that was also used on the dating game...I can't think of the name of it at the moment...but it was perfect for the video!

Anything that has been used in the olympics is always inspirational, has lots of good strong points in the music where you can make focus shots and changes that will coincide.  But really, in the right context, any of the songs listed above if used correctly should work.  I don't think too many people are offended with rock songs being used in commercials, themes for TV shows...etc...it works.   I think the main thing is you need to pick something that inspires YOU.  If you are inspired, your audience will be.

Have fun.

Try something by Enya.  It's New Age music, but somehow her vocals and instrumentals fit really well with triathlon.  Fits really well with an inspirational theme, if that's the direction you're going.

For the start of the presentation, if you have video/stills of a wave getting ready to swim, you have to go with

AC/DC "For those about to Rock"

For mid presentation when you're showing the harshness of trying to finish

Metalica "Fade to Black" or the above mentioned "Keep Pushing" by REO Speedwagon

(or on a whimsical note, "I will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor)

For shots of the finish...

Kiss "I wanna Rock and Roll all Night"

All great ideas! I still haven't figured out which to use yet. Seems like it's hard to find one song that will fit the entire video. I'm not sure that I'm that good at dicing and splicing music.

I'll have to look at my Enya collection.

As for the triathlon song....I'm saving that one for the video/slideshow I want to make for my local tri club. I really enjoy that song! Don't want to duplicate for my own slideshow.
