Total Time = 1h 26m 56s
Overall Rank = 82/178
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 14/27
Pre-race routine:

Due to the ridiculous chest cold I was up at 3am. Ate some oatmeal and a doughnut and then headed out the the race around 4:30am.
Event warmup:

After setting up the transition (neat to do for the first time) I went for a 10 min jog just to get the blood flowing. Didn't do a swim warmup since it was going to be a while before i got my turn in the pool.
Swim
  • 11m 32s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was a little weird swimming for to a lane and since I breath to the left I swallowed some water when others were headed the other way. I did get to pass two other though.
What would you do differently?:

Try and get a little more swim practice in but in this short of a distance I only lost about 4 min to the fastest swimmer
Transition 1
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

There was a fair amount of gravel so I need to wash my feet which took some time. Forgot to spray sunscreen because I didn't set it out
What would you do differently?:

Get through a little quicker. Just need more practice.
Bike
  • 42m 6s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.86 mile/hr
Comments:

Once I got on the bike I passed a lot of riders maybe about 30 or so. 1 rider did pass me on the second lap. The wind really picked up on the second lap so I think the early riders had it better.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, Pretty happy with how I rode.
Transition 2
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

Could have gotten out a little faster but I went back for sunscreen. Thought I would do this one a lot faster.
What would you do differently?:

Focus on where I'm spending the time and try and improve
Run
  • 30m 7s
  • 5 kms
  • 06m 06s  min/km
Comments:

I ran about the speed I figured but this is where I can really improve my time. Was a little windy on the run as well.
What would you do differently?:

Practice. Practice. Practice
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My chest cold and not as much training as I would have liked.

Event comments:

Because the police were late the race was delayed by more than an hour. Once it got going it was very well rujn.

Good race considering that you were up at 3AM with the cold. Too bad that the police didn't have their act together this morning, the delay made a big difference in the timing of when the wind picked up. I agree that four swimmers in the pool at the same time slowed down the swim some but overall it was a fun race.

The goal is to get stronger while your swim, bike and run training schedule is relatively light and you can afford to hit the weights hard a couple times each week.
