Subject: Wanted: 650c frame
I am a student and I have the worst luck with frames. I have had 3 frames crack in the last year. I keep on replacing the frame but I keep on finding cracks that were probably there when I bought it. I still have all the components for a 650c so I'd like to get a 650c frame to replace it. I don't have a ton of money (since I spent it all on the last three frames) but I'm willing to pay a decent amount. I would like to avoid carbon. I would love a lightweight aluminum frame (like the felt b2 frame that cracked). The frame will be build for a 5'4 girl using road bars or bull horns. Sizing isn't all that important as it will be a commuter bike. I'm located in Minneapolis but I am willing to pay for shipping. Shoot me an email here or at [email protected]. Thanks!

Hi there.
Although I do clearly understand your limitations with cash as a student, I am beginning to see a pattern in your situation that you could easily avoid.

If you have purchased 3 frames and all have cracked within a few months of riding them and you think that the cracks may have already been there... maybe it is time to stop buying used cheap frames and start talking to a few of your local bike shops. They could either offer you a discount on a bike that has not sold for too long, or could keep an eye out for a trader, however you want the shop to inspect the bike for any damage.

I am not trying to belittle you or your situation. just trying to add some common sense to it.

Good luck!

You are completely correct. I have talked to my LBS but they only offer high end carbon 650c frames that are far out of my budget. I called every single LBS in the twin cities area and none of them have any used 650c frames.

The first frame cracked due to old age (it was 15 years old but I got a good 2 years out of it). The second frame was an ebay frame that came with a huge crack. I'm avoiding ebay from now on. The second frame was craigslist and the bottom bracket was cracked but was hidden by the paint. The next frame I get I will definitely bring to my LBS to have them check it out first.

No offense taken. It is good advice. Thanks!

I've got just the frame for you if you are still interested.

It's a 47cm Scandium frame custom build from Felt said to have been for pro Emma Snowsill (complete with the WC stripes on it ) . I had it paired with a litespeed carbon fork and with zipp 404s the complete bike weighed in at just over 14lbs!. Never really rode it much as my TT bike or my CX bike took the rank over road riding. It runs 650c wheels.

If you're scared of the 47cm sizing, I'm a 5'5'' guy and had a decent fit, a tad on the small side. There was no toe overlap on the wheels too which was great!

Let me know if you're still in the market.

No, I have not found a frame yet. I am very much interested in the frame could you shoot me an email at the one above with the price? I'm guessing the price may be well over my budget. I have all components already other than a fork and frame so I'd rather not pay more for parts. I'm looking to make this bike into a touring/commuter bike.

We are often asked the question, "What size frame should I buy" and the answer is “it depends”. I know that’s not the answer you want to hear, but hopefully the following will shed some more light.

I am in the process of buying my first tri bike. Because of my size my fitter suggested buying a custom frame but then I have an infinite number of choices for components, wheels, aerobars, etc.
