Ran a simulated half on Saturday, with an impromptu aid station in front of my house. The cops stalking the speed trap by my house must have thought I was nuts, since I ran past him about 8 times. Finished in 2:05, which is a huge improvement over my last time of 2:33, so I'm really happy with it.

Dreading next week's 16+ mile LSD, because (a) it's 16 or more miles, and (b) I'll be in Wisconsin, and the word "flat" doesn't apply at all there.

I'm probably going to sign up for the Schaumburg 20-miler on 9/21, since it fits well in my schedule. Anyone else looking at that one?

Hmm ... didn't know there was a 20-miler in schaumburg on 9/21 ... now I do. INTERESTING.

It's the same day as the Magellan Ready to Run 20 Miler. Being a suburb dweller I'm going to hit the lakefront since it's the only run I manage to do down there every year. Busse should be enjoyable.

I just cannot get motivated to run in the morning in the dark. I've been getting up before 5:30 like I did all summer but still seeing the darkness I just lay there because I really don't like to run in the dark. I have no problem getting up a little later on the weekends and getting my long runs in though but have skipped so many short/speed runs during the week my fitness just isn't there. Guess I'm going to have to try doing some runs after work!

It was ridiculously dark this morning. At this point, I'm so tired all the time I don't know if it's morning or night anymore when I wake up at 4:45 am.

I DO Know that once the marathon is over, i am going to greatly enjoy my winter holiday season...

(That was supposed to 'quote' the above about getting up early but it didn't work.)

This is why I do my runs after work or on the weekend. I don't like getting up in the morning.

Not at all, Tony... it's sponsored by CARA. If you want an entry I'm sure you can get one. If you have an issue getting one let me know, the Coordinator Meg is a friend of mine.

I know how you feel. I did that last year (waking up before dawn to get done) and it just sucked the energy out of me. I work in the afternoon right now, so I've been going out around 9. It's lonely but at least I don't feel like I'm tired all the time.

You need to join CARA next year, great group. I boycotted them for years cause of their size.. but I bit the bullet this year cause I hate doing the long runs alone and hate carrying water. What a change that group has made. Consider it for the next marathon, you won't regret it. Good luck!

Doh! I'll be in Vegas that weekend. I'm going to have to do my 22-miler there.

This is actually the first race I've ever morning trained for. I get home from work around 7 p.m. and usually train exclusively at night, starting at 8:30 p.m. At that time I'm fine for hour-long workouts, but given that we're up to 8, 9, 10 miles on the weekdays, I didn't think it was wise to run by myself that late and for so many miles. (You can only go so far here before hitting sketchy neighborhoods.) Oh, runner problems.

Surprisingly, I really don't mind the 5:45 a.m. runs. Those are fine and I might actually keep doing them post-marathon. But the 5:00 a.m. ones, yeesh.

Got in a pretty good run this morning. Was up around 5:15 this AM and got a little bit to eat and was out the door around 6ish. It was still a little dark but the sun was coming up. I got 15 miles in which is probably less than what I should have done but considering its the farthest I've run since probably April it was pretty good. I just need to get into the groove during the week.

Looks like most people on the board live in and around Chicago, anyone staying in the city the night before? Any night before plans? What about starting chutes? Anyone trying to run a PR or BQ?

Congrats on your run! Got my 18-miler done on Sunday at 10:30 pace. First run with no achilles pain I've had in a while... good time for it too! I'm just trying to finish - the distance is new for me. You?

This will be my 3rd attempt at a marathon. I've finished the previous 2 but I was injured going into both of them. Pulled hamstring before Chicago 2011 I finished around 5:40. Fox Valley last year I had some sort of hip injury that I still don't know what it was but I overcompensated so much that I pulled a calf muscle during the run and finished in 4:43. Hoping for a healthy one this year in under 4. Goal is to run a BQ time of 3:25 for my age group. If I put it off for 2 more years I get another 5 minutes!

This is such a great thread! I love that you guys are keeping it going.

For me, I completed my 2:40 run this sunday. started at 5:00am and ended at 7:40ish. last 30 min was more of a struggle than I expected, but got through it with nothing breaking down.

found a neighbor that can run with me so that makes my long runs a little more bearable.

next weekend i will either do a 3hr run all at once or do 1:30-2hrs saturday late-late night then another 1-1:30hrs early sunday morning...depending on the family front.

Intervals today - though at least my plantar tendons are back to normal. With this heat and humidity (90+ degrees at 6pm, really??? . . .), my pace was about a minute off normal.

I'm also about to retire my Triumph 9s, so I'm debating between the new Triumph 10s or a pair of Hokas - I'll see tomorrow what feels better. I tried the Triumph 10s and I was shocked by how much my 9s have degraded in 400 miles.

Did about 20 miles on sunday. that was fun. I was beat afterwards. I forgot how much it hurts to run that far. It's been a while!

Congrats on your runs everyone! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one struggling through injury and fatigue at this point in the training.

85% humidity this morning. WTH?

I am GREATLY looking forward to weather breaking.

Sidenote, one of my running partners was telling me about a zombie running app this morning that sounds awesome! She said you get "challenges" during your run that keep it interesting, and there's a storyline that comes in every once in a while through your music. Apparently there are multiple seasons of the saga. What a cool idea! Maybe those of you who train alone might look into something like this? Sounds kind of fun.

I could use a motivational app. I do have a tech tee that says "Zombies hate fast food" with a runner running from a pack of zombies :D

Yes. It must have been in the 40's this morning. I got 7 in this morning. Ran the same course I ran on Tuesday and ran it in exactly the same time without checking my watch. Pretty good consistency I guess. Hands were freezing when I got done. Brrrrr

The 20-miler is officially in the books - 3:50:42, with consistent negative splits. After my 15-miler last week torn me apart, I was worried about my fitness, but I think it was just a shoe issues.

Also, I'm now officially drinking the Hoka Kool-aid. My new Stinson Evo Tarmac's are phenomenal - no foot pain even after almost four hours. If anything, they seem a bit faster to me. I won't use them all the time, or for speed work, but these have left me impressed for anything more than 10 miles.

I've been traveling this week but managed to get in two short runs. One being on the treadmill. It's been so long since I've ran on the treadmill I had forgotten how much I hate the treadmill.

What is everyone doing for their last long run this weekend? I'm going to try and get 20 miles in along the fox river on Saturday morning. If anyone is out in the Geneva/St. Charles area and wants to get a run in let me know.
