Overcast
Total Time = 59m 11s
Overall Rank = 2/120
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 2/17
Pre-race routine:

Got up early and didn't shower this time, just drove to the lake and got my bike racked, and set up my transition area
Event warmup:

Went out on the bike course and rode the first 2+ miles just to get the legs going and ready for a fast sprint race here, so that and swam a little bit, opted not to do the wetsuit, would take too much time in T1 IMO.
Swim
  • 09m 13s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had a great swim, no panic, no flipping over to catch breath, I think I have cracked the code finally on my swim, now just need to get more laps in. My sighting was a bit off, but was moving through the pack on the swim, not great but getting better
What would you do differently?:

Work on more yardage, but getting better now
Transition 1
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

Didn't seem like I was that fast in T1, but that is a T1 PR, despite a long run up from the water, but no socks on the bike is working great fro the sprint distance races, will have to keep up on that!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing much-sustain
Bike
  • 28m 4s
  • 10.06 miles
  • 21.20 mile/hr
Comments:

Had a DB draft for most of the race, racer #175, just wanted a free ride and I couldn't ride him off my wheel but talked to him after the race and told him to do his own work and to stop being a weak rider! I hate cheats!
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on some hill repeats and get faster, should have averaged 22-23, but only got 21 MPH, just need to work it better
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Had issues with socks and shoes, need to work on running without socks in the flats
What would you do differently?:

Better T2, need to work on those in bricks
Run
  • 20m 3s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Totally crushed the run, ran well, and didn't feel bad at all just towards the end was a little tired. Overall a good run, and felt great!
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Post race
Warm down:

Cooled off and jumped in the lake to clean up and changed in the port-o-let and got my gear around and attended the awards ceremony. Ended up 2nd overall and the Master's Champion, so was a great day of racing

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Work on swim and bike some more

Event comments:

Great race, and seems like there were less fast guys then from last year's race, might be because of the new OLY race or the Mid-east Regionals on Sunday, but still was well organized, well run, and think that this is a step forward each year! I'll be back if I can! Great race venue as well, and the volunteers are great!

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

The first time I ventured into the deep murky green lake and could not see the bottom my muscles tensed and my imagined fears surfaced. What exactly lies beneath?
