Total Time = 1h 21m 52s
Overall Rank = 11/85

Age Group Rank = 2/8
Pre-race routine:

short drive to event, normal breakfast, 1 gel before swim, 8oz of endurance booster by GNC, coffee
Event warmup:

short swim to loosen arms and legs, some stretching. Air temp was colder than water so stayed in til the start.
  • 06m 58s
  • 440 meters
  • 01m 35s / 100 meters

Terrible swim, could not calm down, no positioning to fight for no bumping into anyone just a piss pore swim!
What would you do differently?:

Wet suits are allowed so use one.
Transition 1
  • 00m 49s

Felt slow but time wise not to bad.
What would you do differently?:

Test using rubber bands on shoes to keep time down in trans
  • 50m 36s
  • 18 miles
  • 21.25 mile/hr

Good bike stronger than expected. No issues in the tuck position.
What would you do differently?:

Fit this bike! I think I am loosing time/speed in current configuation. Power meter?!
Transition 2
  • 00m 27s

Fast and feel through the T2
What would you do differently?:

  • 23m 3s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 41s  min/km

Pretty good for a training day race, soft footing and poor mechanics on the soft grass lead to this so so time.
What would you do differently?:

Sprints not only on hard paths but in the grass will help my mechanics.
Post race
Warm down:

Short walk

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Limited rest, this was a training race so I actually did better than expected.

Event comments:

Super friendly race, really well run. Since wet suits are allowed it makes it a great starter race or a venue to really let it snap. Fair price, good food at the end, small age groups so lots of opportunity to place. Very glad I did this race.

The triathlon made a lot of sense as I could fit the training around early mornings and other times that wouldn't eat too much into my family time. Things never go completely to plan do they?

How often should you have a bike tune up and what should be included? Is it unreasonable to expect a refitting as part of the tune up?

Don't know how to take that rear wheel off of your bike? Is the chain making things difficult? Learn how to remove your rear wheel if you have to change your bike tire or fix a flat.

The first time I ventured into the deep murky green lake and could not see the bottom my muscles tensed and my imagined fears surfaced. What exactly lies beneath?

Both the Lake Triathlon Shoe CX210TRI and the Lake Road Shoe CX225 offer distinct advantages. I tested both shoes and found them to be extremely comfortable, good looking and durable.

If you are calm while everyone around you is losing it, you probably don’t know what the hell is going on.
