Door Country Triathlon
74F / 23C
Sunny
Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = 28/1000
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 10/70
Pre-race routine:

Woke up, cleaned up, changed into gear, took bags to car, went back to cabin to get sharkbait and as i was wheeling sharkbait to the car..........started to throw up. this lasted about 5 minutes or so and came from nowhere as i did not feel sick or anything like that. wasn't nervous about anything either so not sure what was up! Got sharkbait onto the car and rode to the venue with JLT and Freezies.
Event warmup:

Got to the venue, set up the transition spot. Then took sharkbait out for a quick ride to set up the gearing. came back and put on the saucony's and went for a little run. then, chilled for awhile after picking up my chip. little bit later went out for another quick run and then got the wetsuit on and went into the water and then waited for my wave to start.
Swim
  • 07m 40s
  • 402 meters
  • 01m 55s / 100 meters
Comments:

Choppy with some pretty big swells!! if at the bottom of a swell you couldn't see anything around you! even on the way back into shore with the swells taking you it was hard to really find a rhythym.
What would you do differently?:

nadda. even with the chop and swells this was a good and a fun swim!!
Transition 1
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

Wetsuit strippers at a sprint?!?!? oh hellaya im using them!!! was amazed by how easy the wetsuit came off, better than my last wetsuit thats for sure! Everything else in T1 was just trying to be consistent and methodical, even with the hecklers out there!
What would you do differently?:

nadda. transition has not ever been a strong point of my races but i did actually pick up some spots on this day!
Bike
  • 48m 55s
  • 18 miles
  • 22.13 mile/hr
Comments:

not may hills or turns so of course those would be good! one person passed just after coming out of transition and wouldnt you know it that he was in my age group! so besides trying to pass everyone else on the course my other objective was to maintain an approximate 150 yard space on that guy or pass him. maintained the gap throughout the ride. all the age groups went out in waves, it wasn't mixed at all and i was in wave 18 of 20(?) and my number was 895. lowest number i passed on the bike was 72!
What would you do differently?:

nadda
Transition 2
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

transition under a minute??? for DJDavey??? i think somewhere just froze over!
What would you do differently?:

nadda. again was just being consistent and methodical.
Run
  • 20m 7s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

if i nitpick this race for me this is where it would be. feel like i shouldve been faster on this by at LEAST a minute but my legs just were not there for this one. as my lovely pointed out however, and put things into perspective, i have not done any "speed" type of events in a number of years so this was like different from what i have been used to for 2+ years now! back to the drawing board i guess!
Post race
Warm down:

bottle water, medal, out of finishing area, pack up Transition and back to room to clean up and have some breakfast food (pancakes, eggs, bacon and toast!)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not much at all to be honest. like i said, not haveing "speed" type of events the last few years definitely effected things, but hey, any other age group at this race this year i was top four and i did end up 28th overall, but only 10th in my age group. can't wait until next year when i age up one!!!

Event comments:

tons of support staff out on the water, lots of course marshalls on the bike, big area for the turn around on the bike for the out and back, one aid station on the road for the run and one at the turn so three actual on the run course.

Very evident that Sean Ryan and his staff take the time to look at an event from the eyes of all the athletes (from elite to BOPs) as well as from the eyes of the spectators to make sure the experience of the event is top notch. It is like this for any event that i have done that is put on by Sean Ryan and his team.

Nice job over the weekend.  Not sure what was more impressive.....1) Your race on Saturday or 2) Your spectating skills on Sunday.  Good work Donkeyman!

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
