Subject: Ready for 50k?Hello,
I was planning on trying to qualify, again, Nov 3 at the R2H in Toronto. I'm following a sub 3 hour marathon program and subbing a rec5/6 run here and there with a Sufferfest video.
Aug 4 I did my first HIM distance with a 5:04:15.
May 5 I went to Toronto to qualify and bonked half way through due to a bad cold and dumb fast start. Ended with a 3:27:55. Had my 1:31 split on target, as my qualifying time is 3:05 (24 year old ).
I am logging 100-110 kms a week running, following a sub 3 hour marathon plan, do I have what it takes to do a local 50km race instead of shelling the cash out to fly and race in Toronto (I'm from NS ).
My 20-22 mile long runs are going well and I hold a 7:45-8:00min/mile pace.
I'll be venturing to Montreal to do a marathon Sept 22 as a warm up. This would give me 3 weeks taper for the 50k.
Thoughts? And tips on jumping from 26 to 31 miles? |
