Sunny
Total Time = 1h 36m 56s
Overall Rank = 142/252
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 12/22
Pre-race routine:

Didn't get there too early. Slept poorly, and got up early. Coffee and a bagel with peanut butter was all I wanted. Really, only half of the bagel. Beautiful morning. Walked through the park with our bikes and it was truely lovely. Then, checked in and got set up near the end of the swim to minimize the parking lot rocks off the carpet. Turned on the GPS and turned it off a few times to make sure it was "located" with the satelites and would not take too long to catch one when it was time.
Event warmup:

Not a bad warmup to walk 6 blocks. A few shoulder stretches was all.
Swim
  • 22m 47s
  • 1094 yards
  • 02m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt strong (but slow) most of the way. Had a few moments of panic, but mostly stayed outside and focused on going my pace and staying calm. It spread out pretty well. Only went off course once, really, and as always, its a surprise figuring out you're going the wrong direction.
What would you do differently?:

Mostly I need to keep doing 1k swims to get used to doing it without switching to breast stroke, but it is okay that I do that.
Transition 1
  • 02m 46s
Comments:

Got the GPS turned on right away! Really, it was nice as I had a curb to sit on for my shoes, and it was not crowded. They did a nice job with giving us lots of room. Almost forgot to walk the bike without the usual reminders to walk in T1
Bike
  • 43m 23s
  • 13.05 miles
  • 18.05 mile/hr
Comments:

Lost the chain twice on lap 2 on 56th street, a very fast portion. Lost my average pace from 19 mph about.
What would you do differently?:

Ride lots.
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Fast. Almost ran off with my helmet though.
Run
  • 27m 17s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Did well and passed some folks up and down that hill. At teh end tried to hang with a guy and did so, although it pushed my limits on the run - still, I can see that I will be getting faster on the run next year.

Y'know KMac eventually we're going to have to say hello to each other. You do all the same tris I do and we've never met. Anyway nice work! I was the run leg on a team. I know I know -- I've taken a ton of crap from my tribuddies for not doing the whole thing. But our team won the gold so I'm happy! I know I wouldn't have been able to do that on my own.

Anyway good job and say hello next time!

Hey Tony, maybe if I get a picture up here you'd recognize me.  I thought I saw you but we were walking the other way and heading for something important pre-race. . . you know how that is.

We are looking at the North Platte Ironhorse, which is a little longer run (like 5 miles) and it looks to be a fun race.  If you consider it, let me know.

Hey, I read about your move to Chicago and quest for a bike.  Good luck with that!

 Kevin

Hey thanks Kevin. I think I found the one. The Cervelo Soloist. I went to High Gear in La Vista and looked at it yesterday. It's very nice, but a tad pricy. But since I had several grand in equity in my car when I sold it I have some play money. That's actually nice and very rare for me! Yeah post up a photo so I know who you are! I'll check out the Ironhorse to see if that's something I can attend. Living in Chicago might put a damper on it, though, but I'll try to work it out.
