Hello everyone,

I'm not exactly new to BT, but I've been gone for a while. Life and two young children got me away from training for over a year, but now my kids are at an age where they can come with me in my training (stroller, etc.). I'm ready to get back into training and resume my goal of completing an ironman.

Before I stopped training I was on a good pace of increasing distance. I started out at the sprint distance in 2006, then moved up to olympic distance in 2007 before stopping the first time after I got married. I did another sprint distance race in late 2011 before my current break. One of my goals has been to complete all the components of a triathlon before I attempt the distance together. I've completed a half marathon as well as a 100-mile bike ride before so I think I'm up for an IM 70.3. I've committed myself to IM 70.3 Buffalo Lake in Lubbock, Texas on June 29, 2014. That should give me plenty of time to work my way from the couch-to-sprint program (which is an accurate assessment of my current fitness) through the Olympic-to-HIM bridge just before the race.

It's good to be back and any encouragement/pointers on training with young children is greatly appreciated!

Welcome back!!! Having been training on and off for about the past 10 years, the best advice I can give you for training with young children - learn to love your alarm clock... My best, and only consistent time that I know I can workout, without interruption, is from 0400 to 0600. After that, life steps in, the emails start flying around, the kids and wife wake up, and training priorities suddenly become less of a priority.

Like you, I am just now coming back, after a couple year hiatus, caused by a change in my priorities, and some injury issues. So, second piece of advice - start slow, and proceed cautiously, and do not let your mind tell you that you are still in shape, when your body knows that you are not....

Good luck,
Dennis
