Run
Comments: Straight up a long drag on grass then onto large loose gravel made for a difficult start. I pushed fairly hard up this then eased off slightly when I got to the tarmacked section. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: I took the start fairly easily as there was a bit of congestion and the road was narrow and windy so I didn't want to take the risk of passing. Eventually passed the congestion and got into a rhythm. I felt good up the hills and tried to keep in the big ring, which meant standing at times. I probably could have pushed a bit harder on the bike at times but I was fairly pleased with my time. Transition 2
Run
Comments: My legs felt tired going up the hill straight from transition but I gradually eased into feeling better. I felt as though my heart and lungs would have allowed me to go faster at times but my legs wouldn't. I kept a fairly even pace throughout and managed to increase it slightly towards the end. I felt as though my second run would have been a minute or two slower than my first, but it was actually a few seconds faster. One one hand I am pleased I managed to run an even split but on the other, I think it is an indication I went too easy on the first run or the bike. Post race
Event comments: The bike mount and dismount lines were very narrow and got congested at times (according to spectators). This didn't bother me as I was taking it easy here. Also the runners out of T1 and the cyclists shared the same exit which caused problems at times (there were multiple distances running at the same time). Last updated: 2013-07-29 12:00 AM
