Personally it sounds like sour grapes to me. He is French after all.

That is just too funny. Screw the French. We saved their butts in two world wars and they still treat us like crap. Sorry to get political, but I'm just tired of the arrogance and pomposity of those folks. They are just so very jealous of Lance's accomplishments and it is simply driving them crazy. What they fail to realize is that Lance already is a great rider, his place in history is sealed regardless of how he performs this month. Suck it up, French cyclist fans, the good Ole USA has comandeered your beloved race.

Go US Postal, go Lance!

..."Screw the French. We saved their butts in two world wars and they still treat us like crap."

This kind of flaming rhetoric is just assinine. I do not see that Hinault said anything terribly out of turn; he simply proferred his opinion which to me is reasonable if a bit off. Lance is a great Tour rider but he will, like Merckx, Hinault, Indurain and others, eventually lose to a younger stronger rider; it is simply the order of things. Now, having said that, my opinion is that Lance WILL win his sixth Tour...BUT, that is only an opion; don't take me to court on this!!

As for telling "the French" to go screw themselves because of the opinion of one of their countrymen, that is ludicrous. The French love Armstrong and the "Big Blue Machine" which is US Postal Service.

well, the funny part is, who do you think all the spectators are along the route? French! of course there are a few Americans along the way, but for the most part, those lined up waiting to watch the race are French. And they LOVE Lance! Listen to them cheer for him when he gets to the finish line, and laong the way. While the media may chose to glamorize what some moron has to say (I admit I did not click the link), it is by no way an indictment of an entire country. Think Michael Moore....

Saved their butts in 2 Worlds wars?

Why?

So that the French could spend the rest of eternity sucking up to the Allies and agreeing with everything they say – even when the allies don’t agree? Or so that they too had the right to free speech and the right to voice THEIR opinion.

Besides it’s the opinion of one person – and probably rehashed and misquoted by the media at that.

I may not always like the French attitude but I do respect their right to have one. Besides – I’m sure they are not always too happy with mine at times!

Anyway – anyone who is that good at the art of processing the grape can’t be all bad!

PS – try going to Northern France and checking out how the French look after the graves of those who gave their lives in the 2 world wars. The graves that most people don’t even realize are there!

You all have a great point. I was speaking more of politics, not of individuals or cultures. They are worlds apart. By the way, last post on this, but we here in the US are not feeling much love from the French lately. In fact, we're feeling like we're being undermined and misled. I know this is not a political forum, but I did let my political views leak into my over-reaction to the Lance article.

I've been to France and absolutely loved the country, I never ran into anyone that wasn't pleasant and mannerly, so this is nothing personal and I should have toned down the rhetoric.

I just dispise the absolute lack of respect that they pay in their media and politics to the USA and our most notable representative, Mr. Armstrong. I have not heard much positive support from the EU for Lance. Most if it is this continual character assassination around drugs and doping. It is just rediculous.

I do, however, promise to choose my words more carefully next time.

Which is nothing more than a reflection of the USA’s Media views of France.

Lets media bash – not country bash. The media are the biggest bunch of screwed up wastrels that any society has to deal with and the powerhunger, headline grabbing scavengers have the power to tell everyone what they want you to hear with no right of reply, balance, fairness or decent representation.

I hate the lot of them.

Scumbags.
