So some IM races are selling out in just minutes... what is the most effective way to register? What tricks do you use to get in? Multiple computers, cut & paste, ???

I go to the registration page - hit the enter now button about 2 mins before it opens - on occasion it will go in early. Otherwise just hit refresh over and over until you're in.

Technically they don't sell out in minutes.

But every time someone logs on to enter it's considered a sold spot. So you could have five computers for your own entry so five spots sold - but it's not.

Melbourne sells out in 3 mins - I know people that got in 3 hours later.

Do everything you can, and if you still don't get in, pony up a little more money for the foundation slot. If I'm assuming that the race site is too far away for you to drive down and register on site before it goes online, then my guess is that the all in costs including travel/hotel/etc will be pretty large, and an extra ~$650 may not be so bad to do a race that you really want to do.

It's scary to do, but if you add up the all in costs for a destination IM...the entry fee is just a drop in the bucket for most people.

Practice registering on an open IM so you get feel for the data fields that need to be completed. Have something you can cut and paste into some of the generic spots like n/a or none.

Current practice in NA WTC races is you get into holding area, once you make it into register you have 15' to complete the transaction.  Makes sense that some don't complete the form and space opens up. Some folks get in 30' after registration opens so don't give up to quickly.

Get on early and refresh a lot.

Race Ready package comes up the week before the race that includes early registration to the IM and also a 70.3 in the area usually 6-8 weeks before the IM at list price. IMFL they capped out at 400 slots.  This is cheaper option than going community fund even if you don't want to race the 70.3 race.

Be sure your USAT membership is current and will not expire prior to the race date. Also check your profile info on Active.com for accuracy. On mine, the DD and MM was switched somehow. I think having all of your ducks in a row before the 12:00 opening bell sounds is key.

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.
