Pre-race routine:

Mike stayed home as it was probably a good idea not to push his foot that far he is up to about 3.5-4 miles top. Ken is out on a party barge in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. So it was me and 350 other crazy wackos. Left house at 8:35 and got there at 9:05. parking 3/4 way filled up. Registration was crowded in the little cabin they have. Chip up and head back to the truck to contemplate going out on the early start but its warm in the truck and I figure it will push me more to run in the regular pack. Meet a few friends here and there and Caleb. He is a friend too. Ran the 77.7 with us last year and will do again. I'm sure he'll give Mike shit about not being there.
Event warmup:

Couple little pick ups but not much. Start at the back of the pack.
Run
  • 1h 22m 30s
  • 7.5 miles
  • 11m  min/mile
Comments:

Dry road.
Start off and its a pick a pack. No to much jostling. Figure I walk at the mile marks. First mile works well. Little hill right after and run to a walk a little.
Just before Mile 2 my swim buddy from Kershaw. Park mornings comes up from behind. . Well look at that I have a stand in Mike. Nice to have someone to keep me honest and pace me home in time for dinner. We are moving well and run most the course without walking but two hills. OF course in Mike fashion he keeps running and pushes me start up and get going. Bring it home and head to the cabin for chicken soup.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. It was a good pace for where I am (fat and out of shape) and felt good.
Post race
Warm down:

1/4 mile walk to cabin.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Month and half off last fall, old man knees and 40 extra pounds.

Event comments:

Missed the real Mike but the stand was good too.

Nice job with your stand in Mike

Those hills up there would keep a lot of people honest.

With the coming of the New Year, athletes commonly think about making nutrition resolutions. Good thing, given only 3 to 4% of Americans follow all of the established Dietary Guidelines.

To help implement your resolutions (or those of your friends and family members), I recommend the following books, most of which are written by nutrition experts: registered dietitians (RD).
