Still thawing out from a run outside a week ago.

Wondering how long it's going to take for that two feet of ice to melt on my OWS lake.

A couple of years ago I decided to start a triathlon Meetup group especially for the Madison, WI & Dane County area:

http://www.meetup.com/Madison-Area-Triathlon-Meetup-Group/

We currently have 148 members as of today!

If you are not familiar with Meetup, it is the greatest thing since sliced bread! Meetup is designed to facilitate people meeting people who have a common interest. (In this case Triathlon.) Meetup groups exist all over the world!

In Madison, WI there are almost 90 different Meetup groups from Photograpy to Philosophy, Running to Yoga in the Park, Pets to Parents. It is an awesome way to connect with folks and make new friends that you would otherwise probably never meet. How bad can that be?

If you live in the Madison, WI /Dane County area you should certainly check it out. If you are registered for IMWI this group may also be helpful to address questions and find training partners when you come to Mad Town to ride the bike loop as part of your training. We have a large handful of members from Illinois (especially the Chicago suburbs) and MN. Last year we had several members who rode the IMWI bike loop EVERY weekend from the third weekend in April! We have 13 members signed up for IMWI '14 so we'll have plenty of folks training.

Did I mention that it is completely free!

Greetings! This last 6 months, after 59 yrs, finally found the ideal way to survive a WI winter . . . I moved to Florida. It has been so very nice to be able to get outside daily without losing fingers/toes etc. I got so much biking and beach walking in that about 2 months ago I decided I'd see if I could prepare for a Sprint Tri back in La Crosse WI area (Got Energy Triathlon, West Salem WI, June 8). So instead of having double knee surgery as originally scheduled, I'll do my first tri in 26 years (hopefully). Biking is the easy part for me, been doing about 60-80mi/week since getting here in November. Started running about 6 weeks ago, just completed my first 5K run a couple of days ago. Swimming is coming along and not worried about 1/4mi, just won't be very fast. We're planning on driving back at the end of next week. It might be a bit of a temp. shock as it's avg mid 80s here daily ,. . . . Hope to meet some of you this summer!

Mike,
I will be doing the Got energy Tri also (Olympic distance). You may want to wear some sunglasses. Doubtless you have a good start on a sun tan and us Wisconsinites will be quite pale in comparison.

Hi Todd. I hope I have to wear sunglasses, not sure what the weather will be by then We're heading back up in about a week, so I'll probably lose quite a bit of this hard earned tan in that one month. Oh well, I was really lucky to be able to get outside so much here this winter, a huge treat! Hope to see you at the race.

If you would have told me that I would want to train over ten hours a week for a race that can last up to 17 hours, I would have laughed. But somehow, my ACL injury has refocused my outlook on life.

It makes no sense to train hard for a year to hone that aerobic system only to have all that training undermined by a few anaerobic bursts on race day. So, how do you go about it?
