Subject: wide cycling shoes

I had foot surgery last fall and while I've been cleared to exercise, I've been told the swelling will last for awhile.  All I can fit my foot into is wide shoes, and I'm wondering if there are any good choices for cycling shoes that I can get in wide?

Lake and Sidi are 2 popular shoes that come in wide.

I'm sure you'll get some specifc recommendations from others.

I have Lake CX170's and love them. Good luck.

x2 on Sidi. Out of all the tri and cycling shoes that I have tried. These fit the best. wide toe box. Just much more comfortable. Get into a store and try them out though.

pearl izumi are wide - or get one size too big in a mens, then wear the men's on the swelling, your normal shoe on the other. and way to go on the all clear foot!

I have some Shimano R088W - the wide version. It's one of the few less-expensive shoes that come in wide, and since your swollen foot is a temporary condition (I'm stuck with my 10.5 EEEE), why spend a lot? I think I bought mine for around $110.

In addition to those already mentioned (I've had great luck with Sidi and Shimano in the past), look into Bont. They use a 'foot shaped' last (think Merrill Trail Gloves), and are heat moldable to boot (ha)

I just wanted to add...I recently discovered that my Diadora's were getting to be uncomfortable to me. (I believe pregnancy may have made my foot a bit wider...) I read on here and other places, and there was talk of Northwave. I looked and had a bit of trouble finding them without paying $15-20 USD shipping. I found some at both backcountry.com and I ordered them from competitivecyclist.com.

I ended up going with the "Fondo" style and paid $105! (Pretty good for cycling shoes, especially considering how long they last!) I got them and tried them on. (Haven't used them on the bike yet, still waiting for shoulder surgery to heal a bit more..) They were incredibly comfortable! Pretty wide through at the ball of the foot but snug in the heel. I'm excited to try them! (Plus, with the "touring" style shoe - when I end up having to walk up a hill , I've got some shoe nubs to protect the cleat...)

So, since my beloved go-to shoe brand has changed its shoe, after reading the bruhaha about the minimalist shoe, I decided to give it a try. Now I have a foot issue with my arch area.

Both the Lake Triathlon Shoe CX210TRI and the Lake Road Shoe CX225 offer distinct advantages. I tested both shoes and found them to be extremely comfortable, good looking and durable.

Whether your bike is new, new to you, or you have not been on the bike for a long time, you really should spend some time thinking about how your bike fits you.
