Triathlon aphorisms...

Veteran  2842     Austin, Texas |  Subject: Triathlon aphorisms...These rattle around in my head (a scary place). Below are a few that come to mind quickly when I think "tri." What's on your list (whether you actually follow it or not)?
It's swimbikerun, not "swim, bike, run." (corollary: "Solid mediocrity in three sports = success in triathlon." This one always bugged me!) Run lots, mostly slow, sometimes fast. If you don't run fast in training, you won't run fast in a race. (hey, I'm just repeating these, not writing them) Ride lots. Swim with swimmers, ride with cyclists, run with runners. You don't do it in a race, so why do it in training. (oh boy) Transitions - free time!! Never buy a kit in white. Nothing new on race day. Your seat is too high.

Pull buoys are a crutch/crack. Practice the kick. Kicking uses too much energy. Real swimmers wear Swedes. Running in Hokas is like running on______ (unicorn farts, angel kisses, etc) Friends don't let friends ride box wheels. This...or this.

I have finally started 3000m training swims in decent time. I will, however, not consider myself a swimmer until I have mastered the flip turn. So far I can't do them at all...  |
