Boulder, Colorado

World Triathlon Corporation
68F / 20C
Sunny
Total Time = 6h 42m 14s
Overall Rank = 1229/1595
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 123/151
Pre-race routine:

Got to the Res a bit later due to traffic + parking being skewed. Therefore setup time in trans was short and sweet.
Event warmup:

Two loops in the swim area
Swim
  • 42m 46s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

Nothing too special. I'm glad I did what I did; didn't seed myself wrong and didn't have any worries, despite getting hammerpunched in the head and losing my swim caps at one point
What would you do differently?:

only wear the provided swim cap
Transition 1
  • 04m 30s
Comments:

it was a pretty slow T1, but I wanted to take my time and sunscreen properly
What would you do differently?:

move a little quicker I guess
Bike
  • 3h 04m 5s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.25 mile/hr
Comments:

I did what I figured I could do on the bike, which is pretty happy. My hips and quads hurt due to the fatigue of not having ridden further than 35 miles this year. I pushed through pain, took some Advil, did fine. Didn't take in enough salt and needed more liquid. Probably should have eaten more too.
What would you do differently?:

Take in more liquid and calories
Transition 2
  • 05m 22s
Comments:

Very slow in transition. Refreshed my phone to see where mrrmrr was, applied extra sunscreen, and just didn't stress. I was almost lazy
What would you do differently?:

speed up
Run
  • 2h 45m 31s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 12m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

it was what it was. I did my best into getting into a run/walk routine. Made a buddy on the 2nd loop and she really saved my bacon. I took in way too much Perform, but seriously, I felt thirsty. Don't know why, but it definitely made for an unpleasant stomach
What would you do differently?:

hydrate less
Post race
Warm down:

tried to stomach food, couldn't really do it. Walked around and relaxed, talked to my teammates.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

mostly training with a bit of heat.

Some mistakes I made during the Hawaii Ironman 70.3. Don't be caught out on the course not knowing how or not having the equipment to change a flat tire.

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.
