Pre-race routine:

The race started at 8am, so I got up 3 hours before to do my usual routine of eating a powerbar and a cup of applesauce 3 hours before. After that I start sitting on water and gatorade until race start.
Event warmup:

20 minutes as 5min Z1, 5x30sec race pace, 1:30 ZR, and 5min ZR-Z1. I finish this where I almost can run right to the starting line and take a powerbar gel and last sip of water right there.

Comments:

Not sure how I feel about this race. My goal time was not even close to being met, even if I calculated it based on an actual half without the extra quarter mile added. People started fast and I went with the group and within the first few minutes just felt "flat". Around mile 1.5-2.5 my shoes came untied twice! Never had this problem before and they were double knotted, so I'm blaming them getting soggy from the rain. Once I lost sight of the woman in 2nd from bending down to tie my shoes I felt like I lost my chance at having that motivation.
What would you do differently?:

Since this was more of a C race, I wouldn't do much differently. I felt flat, but I'm assuming that's because the harder workouts I had so close to the race. Although I normally wouldn't taper a ton for only a half, this was at the end of a large building block of training so I really felt the fatigue during the race.
Post race
Warm down:

15minutes Z1 immediately after I finished

What limited your ability to perform faster:

End of tough training block so felt tired and flat, but considering it wasn't a goal race I'm not too upset about that.

Event comments:

Well organized race, lots of volunteers and at a good time in the early season.

I just ran the Boston Marathon under nine minute miles, can I run eight minute miles for my half Ironman training runs? Or should I go slower?

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09

Steady is our walk. Ignoring the pain that is radiating from my feet, I continue to place one foot in front of the other. Again I wonder, “Why am I doing this?”

Having three seasons under my belt I thought I knew what I was doing. That all changed with a few new challenges and a bunch of new friends.

This program should be used for an athlete whose goal is to run a marathon in the 1:30-2:30 range and has a good running base in the past 8-12 weeks.

I will assume you have not run consistently more than 6 miles and have never completed a half-marathon. I believe running your first half-marathon is a big task which requires dedication and work.

My training was taking off. I had never felt stronger. I was making bigger strides than I ever had. I was stronger and faster than I had imagined myself ever being.
