Subject: Favorite Bike shops in SF Bay Area??

Hi, All. I'm a newbie. What are people's favorite bike shops in the Bay Area? I'm looking for shops that cater to women-specific designs. I'm a hard to fit at 5'2". I'm looking for a road bike. I currently have a mountain bike that fits great but I bought it 4 years ago and things may have changed a lot since then. Any Advice will be much apreciated! :-

Hello, I live in the East Bay, so If you don't mind the commute I'll recommend Froward Motion...

They'll probably have something for you...

you're in the City, aren't you? if so, then i can't help you much.

but if you are somewhere a bit down south on the peninsula i'd recommend Menlo Velo - the guy running the shop is a bit of a character but if he takes a liking to you he'll go out of his way to make sure you're fitted and equiped correctly. also, the Outfitters in Los Altos are very good.

I recommend forward motion in Danville or Walnut Creek too. They specialize in triathlon and have Quintana Roo, Louis Garneau, Kestrel and Elite bikes. I think if you become a member you get a 15% discount on QR bikes and 15% off all the accessories. It's like $60 to become a member.

Bicycle Outfitters is pretty good... palo alto bikes on university is apparently the same owner, but I find their selection to be lacking.

I bought my bike at Chain Reaction in Los Altos. There is also one in redwood city I believe. They are an official TREK dealer, so if you're in for one of those, this is the store of choice.

Cheers

I'm 5'2" also, and Gebhardt at Cycle Path in San Mateo fitted me on an Orbea.  I love my bike!

There's a guy at Pacific Bicycles in the City that is GREAT for fitting.  He'll size you up (he works with several amatuer and a few pro teams and is a great mechanic and fit guy - he's also an Ironman mechanic)  More important than the bikes they carry is thier ability to fit you right.  They carry a pretty wide variety though.  Eric Pritchard is his name and I don't know what he charges for a full fit, but if you buy a bike there, you at least get a basic fit.  You might need to call for an appointment.  Here's the website with map.

Another vote for Gebhard @ Cyclepath (two locations, Hayward [main showroom] and San Mateo [satellite store & fitting/repair station]). Check them out at cyclepath.com.

I think Forward Motion is good, also you might try Livermore Cyclery in Livermore.  They have quite a few women's specific bikes and I know they sell Orbea.  And they are nice.  It might be kind of far from you though - you could give them a call first.

Cycle Path in San Mateo sells Orbeas, too.  I think that a significant percentage of the road biker short people, like myself, within a 100 mile radius of San Mateo has been fitted on an Orbea by Gebhardt.

Niice!  I'm returning to Gebhardt for my B bike, which is likely to be another Orbea.
