Age Group = m40-44
Age Group Rank = 10/45
Pre-race routine:

Just a cup of coffee and some oatmeal. Hurry up to the reservoir and wait in line to get in for 20 min.
Event warmup:

well, the park opens at 6. Then wait 30 min to get in and park. Then stand in line for 15 min to get timing chip before entering transition. By the time I was into transition I had about 30 min to set up and warm up. I got about 5 minutes in the water.....
Swim
  • 32m 16s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

The course was good, and the weather was nice for the swim. I am very happy with the solid swim. My only complaint is that the tt start went in waves of slower ag first, so I had to navigate around a lot of slower swimmers.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

I thought I was taking my time, but I still had 2nd fastest transition in AG, and 18th fastest overall.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 2h 38m 57s
  • 56 miles
  • 21.14 mile/hr
Comments:

nice wind pushing me as I headed out, but strong headwind heading back on crappy, hilly roads. It all evens out in the end i guess. A LOT of riders out in the middle of the roads blocking other riders and traffic. I hope there were some penalties assessed.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

Shoes came unclipped as i dismounted. intentionally took some time transition to prep for run.
What would you do differently?:

tighten pedals, new cleats
Run
  • 1h 56m 53s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

started out with usual discomforts, then settled in to a comfortable 8:30 pace. stopped every mile for water and ice. Hit the pain at around mile 8 and pace started t o drop.
What would you do differently?:

more long easy training runs and more miles...
Post race
Warm down:

Crash into the giant slip n slide. I actually felt better after this event, than I did in my previous sprints..

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my run..

Event comments:

fun race and well organized. Great food and swag. Just wish the park would open a little earlier.

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
