Comments: It's been a while since I've raced a 10k and it's a distance I still find myself trying to really figure out. Also, I came into this treating it as a C race which meant training through it (85mile week) and with zero work other than base prep fitness for the past couple months. Started ok and ran the first mile a touch fast at 5:40 but not horribly bad. However, I was really worried I didn't have the fitness for the pace, and I wouldn't have, so I backed it down. Ran the next few miles by RPE and purposely took it a bit easy thinking the mileage in my legs would cause me to crumble if I went to the wall. Should have just sat in on 5:50s and let it ride. Instead I rolled into the last mile realizing I needed to get it into gear to save a sub 38 effort. Ran the last mile at 5:20 to come in at 37:38 What would you do differently?: Better pacing had I known what I should even have been looking at. Ideally I probably should have gone out around a 5:50-5:55 and just held on through the pain. Post race
