Comments:

Felt good through mile 20, when things got very real and I took more frequent walk breaks. Happy with my race today. My last marathon in 2009 was a disaster. Course was very very crowded until the split where the marathoners go left, the half marathoners to the right. Prior to that there was a lot of weaving in and out of the crowd. It was actually a relief to have some open space, even if the crowd support was sparse.

Seeing the children at St. Jude's and their families lined up, encouraging the runners, was so inspirational. This is such a humanitarian event. Any suffering from running a marathon is miniscule compared with the pain these families are going through.
What would you do differently?:

More speed work would have helped. I got two 20 mile runs in, but got sick three weeks before the race and had to miss the last 20 miler, as well as cut back on volume earlier than necessary.
Post race
Warm down:

Went through the food area and got some pizza and a Krispy kreme donut, then looked for my friend Mary, who had finished half an hour earlier. It was a cold day and once I stopped moving, got cold quickly.

Event comments:

Great race. Go run it for St. Jude's.

Super job on 26.2/.

I have heard that you pass by the hospital a few times on that course and the children who are able re outside cheering for racers.  that would make it such an emotional day.

Yes, you run past the hospital twice. With it being such a cold and windy day, there were not a lot of the little patients outside, but many parents and families.

I signed up for Ironman Frankfurt, next year July - and I am very excited about it. I originally planned to run my first Marathon in the middle of September, but am not sure if this is wise.

The triathletes really inspired me. I watched them in awe as childlike thoughts went through my head like, "I want to do that!" But then reality set in. “Who are you kidding?

I’ve signed up to do the St. Anthony’s Olympic Triathlon in April. I will be 49 in May and need some advice on a good training program to fit into my full time work schedule.
