Registration has been suspended for 2015. I emailed about it and they said they do not know now when registration will open. Wondering if they are going to cancel it. They have certainly had a rocky first two years.

Hm seems to be up on the website and active, although I didn't go through to the credit-card stage, obviously.

Curious to where you got this information.

It wouldnt surprise me if they were to cancel. After 2013 then with it being canceled at the last minute in 2014 I imagine the vast majority of registrations have come from 2014 athletes who took up the $100 registration.

I finished in 2013 and was on the sand in 2014. Personally I will never go back, just way to risky to put my eggs in that basket.

Just went through the process up to that same point and it seemed to work.

So it doesn't seem like this is any kind of news but I can guarantee this race is not long for the world.  As mentioned, most of the 2015 registrations are probably 2014 athletes taking the $100 offer.  After 2013 and 2014 what new participant is this race going to attract?

Wow. I am watching this with interest. I am one of those athletes who was at last year's race and standing on the beach ready to go. I took them up on their $100 offer and I am registered for 2015. Hotel is booked. Good thing I was planning on driving there. Getting the hotel deposit back won't be a problem, a booked flight would have been a problem.

I emailed the contact info on the website. She did not say it was cancelled just suspended and didn't know when they would go active. However she did say just keep checking back in to find out. Based on your responses, maybe they worked out the issue.

As much as my gut tells me there will be some natural disaster that will ruin race day, I am going to sign up for the 70.3.

So the full registration is open. My mistake. It is only the 70.3 inactive. Maybe it's a sign I need to just go for the full....

Can any of last years racers recommend hotel or rental options?

I guess that depends on how much you want to spend and where you prefer to be.  Since this race has separate T1 / T2 areas, the popular choices are to stay near King's Beach where the race starts, or in Squaw Valley where the race ends.

I was at the host hotel in Squaw for the 2013 race.  For me personally, it was better to be staying near the finish line.  It was a bit of a hassle getting to King's Beach, but at least you're dealing with it up front when you're not wiped out from a difficult day.  IF you stay in Squaw, make sure you know how you're going to get your bike to T1 the day before the race.  I remember some people were in rental cars that couldn't (easily) transport their bikes, and ended up riding 20 miles over to T1 in rain / sleet.

Glad to hear the full is still open. My wife and I are both looking to do Tahoe as our first full in 2015. Considering the cost and that two of us will be doing it, Tahoe makes the most sense since we live 2 hours away Sacramento.

Nice move. I'm 1.5 hours away from Sacto. Ya gotta take advantage of these local races especially a 140.6. Travel races can get pretty expensive.

Wow Tahoe's group post is pretty dead! Are people just not pumped up about it? I could understand why with everything this happened.

My guess is that they are making the bike course easier so that they can attract more racers and make more MONEY!

There are 900-something signed up for the full.  My guess is the vast majority of those 900-something are 2014 registrants who paid $100 to race in 2015. My guess is 2015 registrants not from 2014 can be counted on a few hands.  It's a difficult course to begin with which will never make it popular but add the possibility of freezing cold, snow, and/or wildfires, and it's not a race a lot of people are willing to gamble on.  They're basically 0-2 with this race.

Barring this course change causing some kind of registration miracle this race won't be around in 2016.  The half will probably continue to exist but the full will be kaput.

Yeah it looks like they took out a couple of the harder spots on the bike. Still will not be easy by any means but the small twists and turns are gone.

I wasn't too fond of the Northstar section anyways, happy to see the change. I can't think of a nicer place to relax and do an Ironman than Tahoe. IMLT will be the tail of a back-to-back for me... I registered for IMWI three days before 2014 was canceled and backed into the $100 deal. There will be pain

I also like the new bike course. I have only driven the course in 2014 and the Northstar section was odd to say the least. Going through parking lots and such. Seemed like the only reason for it was to add elevation to the bike course. Now it looks more streamlined. There was SO much road construction all over the course last year and anticipate that being finished for this year's race

Hope we get to race this year. The wild fires are crazy. Living in the mountains of Colorado, I've always said that wildfires are our hurricane/tornado. We have been fortunate in Colorado for the past few years though. Lots of rain (at least where I live). I wish we could send some of it to the West Coast. As much as I want to race this year it is just a race and I hate thinking of people in the Tahoe area/Northern California area living on the edge all summer. Been there and it sucks.

However, with that said, I will be so disappointed if we can't race again. Of course we couldn't race last year. I get that BUT it doesn't mean I won't be majorly disappointed if it happens again. Have my fingers crossed I know my husband and I won't come back for a 3rd try so hopefully the fire and smoke will settle once we get closer to race day. Happy Training!
