Overall Rank = 236/1041

Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4 to take my Infinit Nutrition. Made my soy, whey (ON) and Infinit Mud mix. Rolled my feet and did my foam roller routine.
Event warmup:

I did some static stretches and ran a couple easy loops around the Birkdale Shopping center. This really worked out for me on my start.
Run

  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

I'm not sure about my overall rank, so I'm just including what the race report says for now.
What would you do differently?:

This was the first 1/2 I was able to actually focus my training on and it's starting to pay off. Might not bring my phone with me the next time, it wasn't that cumbersome but more of a distraction.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and talked with my club mates. I also say Maria and Pete and was able to take some pictures. I also had Bill Scibetta do some work on my legs, he told me my left side was tight. Something that has been that way for some time and something I should work on.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. I felt great from the very beginning to the end.

Event comments:

Bear did an even better job this year. Well organized and plenty of massage vendors on hand. Well done!

I just ran the Boston Marathon under nine minute miles, can I run eight minute miles for my half Ironman training runs? Or should I go slower?

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09

Steady is our walk. Ignoring the pain that is radiating from my feet, I continue to place one foot in front of the other. Again I wonder, “Why am I doing this?”

Having three seasons under my belt I thought I knew what I was doing. That all changed with a few new challenges and a bunch of new friends.

This program should be used for an athlete whose goal is to run a marathon in the 1:30-2:30 range and has a good running base in the past 8-12 weeks.

I will assume you have not run consistently more than 6 miles and have never completed a half-marathon. I believe running your first half-marathon is a big task which requires dedication and work.

My training was taking off. I had never felt stronger. I was making bigger strides than I ever had. I was stronger and faster than I had imagined myself ever being.
