Pre-race routine:

Race was at noon, so had a good breakfast around 8. Ate half a turkey sandwich at 10:30, then a Hammer Gel 15 minutes prior to the race. Mary and I got to the race site (PORTA High School) around 10:30, so were able to score great end spots in transition. Had to set up in the rain. I had a big plastic container for all my gear which worked out really nicely, no fumbling with pulling stuff out of bags.

Felt like I swam pretty well. A chunk of this time is the run from when you exit the pool to the transition area. My watch read 2:00 on the dot when I was climbing out. Not real fast but felt good.
Transition 1
  • 01m 38s

Jeez, it's like I set up camp. Felt a little disorganized since I was pulling gear out of a plastic box instead of having it laid out neatly.

Ugh, such a crappy day. Was cruising at 27-29 on the way out thanks to a strong wind from the east. I knew when I hit the turnaround it would be nasty. And it was.
Transition 2
  • 01m 40s

Fumbling around again. Forgot my race belt with my number on it, but this is a small race and the directors are cool.

We have new 10 and 20 week training plans for the New Year! These mini sprint plans are very conservative and will get any person thinking of training for a triathlon ready to cross the finish-line.

We will take a peek into the lowly saddlebag to see what needs to be in there in case of emergency. Much of this may be common sense, some might surprise you, and some are simply just my opinion.

If you haven’t done any bricks yet, this isn’t the time to start piling them on, but here are some examples you could do in the lead up to your race.
