Age Group Rank = 12/22
Swim
  • 06m 3s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my first pool swim, and it was chaos. I put in that I do a 7 minute 300m time(which was accurate when I set it) but recently I have been doing 6:20-6:30 300m. I figured that with the traffic in the pool I'd end up at about 7 minutes, so no big deal. I quickly found out that I'm the only one who reports a time slower than my actual time. I was running up people all throughout the swim and ended up passing 6-8 people out of frustration. It was a pain dealing with slower people in front of me, though not unexpected.
What would you do differently?:

Post a faster time when I sign up. If I had been about 10 people ahead in line I probably would have been able to swim at my normal pace for the most part.
Transition 1
  • 03m 11s
Comments:

I'm slow in transitions. I'm not at a point where 15 seconds will keep me off the podiums or anything so I don't worry about it too much.
Bike
  • 47m 16s
  • 14 miles
  • 17.77 mile/hr
Comments:

I pushed too hard on the bike overall. I should have held a little more in reserve for the run, but I couldn't help myself. It was too much fun passing people. ;)
Transition 2
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

I had been practicing the running dismount but couldn't quite make it work this time. Again, my transitions aren't super-important to me so I'm not losing any sleep over it.
Run
  • 25m 45s
  • 2.9 miles
  • 08m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

No real complaints here, though my breathing pattern wasn't quite as good as I had hoped. I got in a groove and stuck with it, and I only had 1 spot where I seriously considered walking.
What would you do differently?:

Drink a little less in the ride before the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Does drinking water and trying not to vomit count as a warm down?

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Gravity.

Event comments:

Ironhead seems to be good at organizing races every time I go. The run course could have been a little less confusing at the start and the bike route could have been on a little better roads(there was one bad stretch for 3-4 miles, but otherwise it was fine) but the race was run well overall.

Good job. I was in pretty much the exact same situation with the swim last year. I swam 1:30 faster than my predicted time.

Congrats on your first race!

Thanks. I looked around for you there but never saw you. Then again the only picture I've ever seen of you is in a giant duck costume so unless you're wearing that I'm probably not going to recognize you. :p

Strange. I was there in my BT tri suit. The only one there wearing one!

Ah well, I saw the pictures of you from yesterday so I'll know who to look for next time.

Congrat on your first tri babe! You did an amazing job!

Sure... I was YELLING at you during your T1... hell I was yelling at the entire ROW! It was like people were camping out in the T1! HA!

Otherwise, great race! I had fun getting to spectate for once!

Rockwall is a pretty good race. I had the same issues with the pool last year, except my time was slower because of all the traffic. I was ticked that people were walking after only 100 yards. No reason they should have been listing 5:30 swim times.

Another reason your swim might be off, the pool in Rockwall is only 25 yards instead of 25 meters. That's about 10% less. That would also account for some people having overestimated their times.

Nice job on the run. If it was anything like it was last year, that was a 3 mile sufferfest.
