Pre-race routine:

Got up early, ate a bowl of oatmeal and some coffee, took gatorade and a banana to transition.
Swim
  • 45m 7s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt =tired during the swim, didn't feel like it went well, zig zagged quite a bit, goggles got a little foggy, felt like it took forever to get back to shore. never could get in a good rythm, swim felt pretty crowded.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure what the problem was, last year I felt great, did the same training maybe a little more, expected more from my swim this year.
Transition 1
  • 03m 39s
Comments:

felt like a good transition
Bike
  • 3h 00m 51s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.58 mile/hr
Comments:

The first part of the bike i wasn't feeling very good, thought that was just going to be the theme for the day, but after 30 min or so, started to feel pretty good, and had a good cadence, not working too hard and tried to keep taking in nutrition. The last 10 miles of the bike though, I was ready to be done, couldn't stay aero very long, uncomfortable, starting to get hot, and i really wanted some water.
What would you do differently?:

need to figure out why I'm not getting HR data after I get out of the water, was going on RPE but maybe I over did the bike a little. took 4 minutes off of last years bike.
Transition 2
  • 03m 14s
Comments:

felt like a fast change, but stopped at the water table inside transition to dump some water over my head, walked out of transition, was pretty cooked at this time, really hot.
What would you do differently?:

hit the sunscreen people
Run
  • 2h 41m 10s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 12m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

felt pretty bad heading out to the run, walked up long first hill and had to will myself to start running. took a while, but finally got into a run walk groove that I could sustain, really dragging, very hot on the run.
What would you do differently?:

I only was able to get 2 warmish weather runs in prior to the race, needed more hot weather training.
Post race
Warm down:

laid under our tent for a little bit, then knew I had to get some nutrition in, so got some pizza and chips and drank a little water and gatorade. I was pretty cooked. took a little while to rally somewhat.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Something was a little off this day, a little tired, and it was really hot. Happy to have the finish I did with how I felt.

Some mistakes I made during the Hawaii Ironman 70.3. Don't be caught out on the course not knowing how or not having the equipment to change a flat tire.

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.
