Turner Valley, Alberta
Canada
22C / 72F
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 05m 54s
Overall Rank = 4/177
Age Group = M40-49
Age Group Rank = 3/17
Pre-race routine:

No taper just mid week race to get some intensity.
Swim
  • 09m 48s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 58s / 100 meters
Comments:

Simple 20 lengths in the outdoor pool with a bit of running to the mats. Under 10 mins for the actually swimming so good enough.

Transition 1
  • 02m 8s
Bike
  • 34m 7s
  • 20 kms
  • 35.17 km/hr
Comments:

Focused on keeping as steady as possible with the climbs and descents (still ranged up to 65 km/hr). Wind wasn't terrible but present.

What would you do differently?:

Push harder

Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Run
  • 18m 28s
  • 5 kms
  • 03m 41s  min/km
Comments:

Fastest run split in the race, left a bit too much on the bike I guess.

Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

No deviation from IM training plan just dumped the race in the middle of the week.

Event comments:

Super organized, the results actually were posted (unlike the Oly 2 weeks ago).

A good little short course race with some of the faster guys coming out.

Have a goal when you get into the water. If your purpose is distance, then set your pace for endurance. If your objective is speed, then incorporate drills.
