Total Time = 4h 04m 36s
Overall Rank = 2595/2609
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 117/119
Pre-race routine:

Ate a couple bagels, visited the blue rooms six times or so. Set up transition and checked my stuff into the bag check tent.
Event warmup:

Walked around, talked to people, and waited for my wave. Seven minutes before my wave started, I got in the water with everyone else.
Swim
  • 57m 22s
  • 1500 meters
  • 03m 49s / 100 meters
Comments:

Gender: 1177/1181. Good swim, just too slow. Got overtaken by the next wave about 2/3 of the way through the course. They swam right over the top of me, so I had to get out of their way. The wave after them caught up to me as I neared the exit ramp.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster.
Transition 1
  • 04m 55s
Comments:

I thought it was a good transition, but looking at the stats, I was pretty slow. 2436/2609 overall, 106/119 age group, 1086/1181 gender.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster.
Bike
  • 1h 38m 12s
  • 40 kms
  • 24.44 km/hr
Comments:

Hmmm. Not sure why I was so slow.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster.
Transition 2
  • 04m 44s
Comments:

Had to visit the blue rooms, which cost me about three minutes.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Age group: 117/119; gender 1175/1181
Run
  • 1h 19m 21s
  • 10 kms
  • 07m 56s  min/km
Comments:

Did my best. Ran for about 3.5 miles, and then walked for about a hundred paces, and then ran again. Walked through aid stations. Walked a few paces, but mostly ran. GPS watch kicked in at about a half mile into the run:

Mile 1: 12:06/5.0 mph
Mile 2: 12:11/4.9 mph
Mile 3: 12:39/4.8 mph
Mile 4: 13:23/4.5 mph
Mile 5: 13:45/4.4 mph
Mile 5.71: 9:14/4.6 mph <--this includes some time at the end of the race, before I remembered to stop my watch.

What would you do differently?:

Run faster. When I checked the video, I could see I run very stiff legged. I need to lift my knees when I run. I'm not sure how to do that.
Post race
Warm down:

Found the food tent and ate. Went and got my credit card and spent a lot of money, and then went and laid down with my bike in the grass and took a nap while waiting for another triathlete staying at the same AirBnB to bring me my race packet for the Sprint so I could recheck my bike back into transition.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Me. I took Mark Allen's advice during the run and kept telling myself to just focus on the current mile and forget the ones before and after. I think it helped.

Event comments:

I'd definitely do this race again, if I qualify. I had a lot of fun, which was my goal.
