Good morning from another blustery, windy day in the northern Nevada desert--we even had snow flurries yesterday...boooooo!

4:30am:  60 minutes on the KK.  Conundrum--can any of you comment on this?  Today's training had me move through Z3 and Z4 at three minute intervals. Try as I might I could barely get to the middlish of Z3.  I felt like I was pushing hard but perhaps I wasn't working as hard as I felt I was?  Last week I did the workout just fine.  Today I just couldn't get the heart rate up.  Thought it was weird, but maybe just one of those days where effort felt harder than it was.

5:30am:  Military Fitness Plus--pushups and plank stuff.

Today I help decide the fate of teachers in our school--a full day long meeting of creating next year's schedule.  Praying I keep all freshmen English classes with maybe an Honors Freshmen class thrown in.  I keep missing out on Honors classes and I'd really love to teach one (or two!)

Have a great day BT!

Good night from Saigon, where the low today was 78! 80-minute trainer ride this morning, with somewhat similar results. In my case, I think it was due to being overambitious about the watts I was trying to push. It was supposed to be 80-85% of the FTP from my last test, which my coach said was "HIM effort", but it was definitely considerably harder than that, at least at 5 AM and in the middle of a heavy training week. If I was pushing the bike that hard in an Olympic or maybe an international distance race (60+ km), I would be getting worried about my ability to pull off a decent run! It would be suicidal in an actual HIM unless I planned to DNF after the bike, and even then not sure I could sustain it for nearly 3 hours!

But if the workout was easy for you last week (it wasn't in my case--I was using a lower FTP then), then high effort with low HR is often a sign of fatigue/ overtraining/ impending illness. Maybe take an easy day and see how you feel.

Good luck with the schedule. Maybe if you are involved in the process you can push for some of the classes you want??

ETA: Also did a 2200m swim workout. Actually almost forgot. I think I need some sleep!

Kim, I find that whenever my HR won't respond the way I want or the way it usually does, it means that I'm more fatigued than usual. It's SO frustrating because you 'feel' fine, but the body is saying "Nope, not this time". Just IMO, but I fight this constantly - especially with running - and it usually means I'm at the point of being fatigued.

7am - 60 min spin - subbed a class at a local resort - I LOVE teaching here. Members are wonderful and we had a great class!

11am - 4 mile run/walk. Tried my new Hokas for the first timeā€¦I like them!! I'll use them in rotation with my Brooks but definitely something to get used to!

My husband and youngest are both sick , so just tending to them the rest of the day - fun fun.

Good to know! I saw a lot of Hokas on Saturday and now I'm intrigued.

Race report is up, and my butt is down, in a chair, letting my feet heal

I'm on the other side of the college-student desk. I'm the one with the red pen in my hand. Those of us with schedules that change from day to day actually have an advantage, I think.
