Subject: Question on Wetsuits
I never owned a wetsuit so I'm not sure what I need. I'm training for a 70,3 (late November) and most of it will be in winter (I live in the southern hemisphere) and I dont have access to a heated pool. Instead I have access to a huge lake, thus my need for a comfortable wetsuit in order to avoid freezing.

I'm 5' 8" (1,75 cm) and overweight at around 229 lbs (104 kg). I'm doing a lot of running and expect to go down in weight before the event, but that is still to a goal to be reached.

Do you have any suggestions, ideas on which brand or type of suit I need?

Thanks,
Fernando

What sort of temperature water will you be dealing with? If combating cold you'll certainly want a full sleeved suit, and if particularly cold I know multiple brands like blueseventy

Sorry post got cut off....

Blueseventy and other brands make booties and thermal caps and such.

I've owned 2 wetsuits, different brands...unless you have a dealer close by to try some on, you're limited to ordering based on the size charts published by the brands. Sites like triathlete.com have published wetsuit reviews and buyers guides, have a look there perhaps and see if any reviews say that a particular brand may be best "suited" for your particular body type?

Thanks, I will try triathlete.com.

Regarding the water temperature, I'm not really sure. Outside temperature is around 5-10 degrees C (about 50 F), so I was looking to getting a full sleeve suit, and planning on swimming at around noon time (so weekends only at first).

I'm doing my first tri Saturday. It starts at 7 AM and the forecast is calling for a high of 82 (air temp). Do I need to rush out and get a wetsuit?
