So the frame on my 2006 Felt S22 cracked and Felt has given me 2 options for replacement:

2016 S32 Frame for free - http://www.feltbicycles.com/USA/2016/Bikes/TT-TRI/s-series/s32.aspx

or

2016 1A 10 Frame for $1,600 - http://www.feltbicycles.com/USA/2016/Bikes/TT-TRI/ia-series/framese...

My shop will re-fit and reuse my S22 components (which are solid) on the new frame.

What would you do? It's less about the cost vs. the value of a the 1A 10 frame. I'm a sprint/Olympic competitor now, more casual than I was in my younger days. Help!

If it's not about the cost I'm not even sure why you're asking.

Value - is spending the cash worth it? How much does it really matter?

Hard question, obviously value is a personal thing but was wondering what others would do.

I would build the 1A 10 frame up with new components. Use the old components on a steel or AL road bike frame ($400-$600), and get 2 bike for the price of one. (you can get a nice riding steel frame for that price)

your 2006 components(9 speed ?) although solid are not even the equivalent of new tiagra components today.

Personally I would just take the lower end frame, have the parts swapped over and be done with it.

With the higher end frame I would certainly be looking to upgrade other parts along with it, no point in putting non aero wheels on such a nice aero frame right? Might as well upgrade that old 8 or 9 speed drive train to 11 speed seeing as its going onto such a nice bike.... I am sure you can see where this is going. That 1A-10 is really really nice but I think unless you were looking to upgrade anyways the $1600 for the frame could be just the start. If its worth it or not is a personal decision.

I had the same bike, S22, up until 3 years ago. Mine was factory DA 10spd components and SLK crank.  I then built a Felt B12 frameset up with Ultegra 6800.  There is a big difference in shift quality the older DA series vs. the newer 6800 Ultegra series.  The S32 frameset with your existing components is basically the same bike.  You could make it "better" installing full 105 5800 or Ult 6800, and should be able to find a used/new off-bike groupset in classifieds here, ST, or eBay for a good price.

If I were to go with the IA10 frame it would be with "modern" components.

Thank you all very much, I failed to consider that my old DA components are probably "average" now. Some great ideas you all provided - but for now I went to the shop and they are going to see if the Felt B series frame is an option. That's really a perfect solution for me.

To overshare, I feel like in 5 years my back and hips are just going to be worse and moving to a road bike may be inevitable. I'll take the $1600 I was going to spend on the 1A frame, invest in it Netflix and maybe in 5 years I'll have $5k for a roadie

Thanks again!!

good idea there. putting such old components onto the DA 10 doesn't make much sense at all. I echo the thoughts on going with the s32 frame. I have a 2007 S32 and love it!

Aslo, I assume that by "invest in netflix" you mean Netflix stock and not a netflix subscription where you become a couch potato and get fat lol
