Pre-race routine:

It was an evening race, so I had a normal day of work, chores and errands before heading over. I think I was a bit dehydrated earlier in the day and then drank too much to compensate in the few hours before the race.
Event warmup:

Stretched, walked around, short run through the parking lots (not more than 1/4 mile).

Comments:

Excellent run. The fact that it's dropped twenty degrees this week really helps. I was able to keep running the entire time, even on the hills (which I normally walk). I tried not to start too quickly and my pace felt pretty comfortable - I was 9:15 at the first mile, 18:50 at the second. Since I knew the course so well, I was really able to keep pushing, knowing exactly what was left ahead of me. At the end, I fell off a bit - I just felt like my legs had had enough - but I was still able to run hard through the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I hope this gives me a little more confidence in my running going forward. The heat has been my enemy, but take it away and I am in pretty good shape - this was my best time since September 2007.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, stretched more. Actually, it took so long for them to get the results and start awards that I got really cold, so I left before they were over. I was just sick over the weekend and don't want that cold to come back!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training. I haven't been doing speed work. That said, the conditions have been terrible, so just running has been all I could handle. Today showed that my conditioning is really good when the weather is reasonable.

Event comments:

Nice local 5K. I love that the top finishers got pork roll as a prize!
