What do you want out of your Ironman?

When can you start training?

Are you okay with training mostly indoors (are you northern climate?)

Do you race better in heat or cool temps?

Consider Redman in OKC! Great race with a flat course and the most incredible volunteers. It's held in Sep

I live in Oklahoma and won't be doing Redman this year.  Last year I missed it due to a car wreck that sidelined my and this year they just didn't get details out on the Citizens Race early enough for me to prepare for it.  So I look forward to doing Redman in 2017.  My dad's maternal family is from Garden City Utah on Bear Lake, so the Bear Lake Brawl is another one on my bucket list.  My dad's pattern roots are in Star Valley, Wyoming near Yellow Stone Park so I also looked at the new 140.2 Distance race in Yellow Stone, but won't be doing that one unless they change the day it is run.  I lived in the Austin Area for 5 years and I have heard mixed reviews on that race.  My younger brother did the full IM Wisconsin in 2002.  He didn't do another triathlon until the sprint tri that he did in Maryland last week on zero training so I am not sure what type of review he would give on that race.   There are lots of options for races.  There is no single race that is going to be the best for everyone.  My family is spread across the country so I choose races that are close to family so I can see them when I travel.  Every race I have done has had a very difficult course.  Some people want to do the most difficult course they can find, others want flat fast courses so they can post a faster PR time.

You can have a good experience anywhere.  What are you looking for?  A fast course?  Lost of people? Pretty scenery?  Other?

Finish it around 13 hours.

Working on building a strong base, want to use a 24 or 30 week training plan.

Yes, I am good with indoor training.

I have no problem with both.

Thanks for your input.

Whistler BC. Texas is way too early in the season. Lots of condos to rent in Whistler and it's a world class venue.

I'm not quite half way into my IM training. I just raced a sprint and on Monday I woke up and felt like I'd been drugged! Not sore, just incredibly fatigued.
