I did a search in BT and nothing.

Other than some notes on the IM site about this being a very challenging course I can't find any details. The videos make it look amazing, but lots of hill climbing.

That was meant to be my 4th IM but I had to bail half way through my training because work got in the way. I was totally entranced by the black sand beaches, the secluded nature of this little island way off of Morocco in the Atlantic. I keep thinking that if I get back into IM, that'll be the one. I'm surprised it's still there actually because the rumors were that 2013 was supposed to be the last time it would be on Lanzarote and after that they'd move it to mainland Spain. Glad to hear it's still going. But yea, as you read, it's an unbelievably hilly bike course, with a flat but hot and humid run. I hope you do it, and you can tell us how it was! If you're going international, go exotic

I looked into Lanzarote a few years ago.

From what I understood, it's difficulty is mainly because of the bike course, very hilly and windy....like really hilly and windy.

The heat is also be a big factor.

Also an expensive place to get to, at least for me.

Lots of race reports out there to read.

my club (the Pirates) seem to like it . every one says it is amazing race BUT Probably the hardest IM branded event out there

Hot, Hilly & windy. open sections on the bike - cross winds want to blow you off the tarmac - the thing is ether side of the tarmac is larva-field waiting to rip you to shreds

A buddy of mine in Germany has done it a few times and he actually did win his age group (45-49) this year. From what I know the bike course is considered the most challenging out of all the IM branded ones with total climbing of about 2500 meters, with most of these climbs into a nasty wind. It's also usually pretty warm/hot on race day another factor to consider. My buddy finished in 10:22 this year and the top 3 Pros finished in the 8:40s. That's a small indicator on how tough this course is.

My friend actually puts on a Tri clinic every year in January in Lanzarote (available from Germany only) because of the beautiful location and nice climate.

If you think you can handle the bike course I think it'll be a nice IM to consider.

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"
