Hyannis, Massachusetts

Timeout Productions

Sunny
Total Time = 1h 21m 12s
Overall Rank = 323/671
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 19/58
Pre-race routine:

same as usual, oatmeal, coffee, drive to race. Aside from the near altercation with a volunteer (who was obviously looking for a fight that morning) in the parking lot (a**hole almost hit Mike and Donna's bike), it was business as usual.

Found Patty and others that I knew would be there.
Event warmup:

short swim.
Swim
  • 09m 41s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 12s / 100 yards
Comments:

the chop had picked up by the time my wave (#9)started. Going out to the first bouy was pretty tough, but smooth sailing after that. When I went to stand up at the finish, I noticed the bottom was completely covered by CRABS! So I swam until the water barely covered my feet! LOL
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Transition 1
  • 02m 33s
Comments:

one of my better transitions this year. The wetsuit came off easier than ever before. And I was pretty pleased to see that I beat Mr. "I'm gonna move your sh*t so I have more room" out of the water. I also beat him back from the bike. Not sure abou the run tho. Guy was a jerk
What would you do differently?:

nothing, it was a good transition.
Bike
  • 32m 8s
  • 10 miles
  • 18.67 mile/hr
Comments:

OMFG! I swear this was my fastest bike split on this course EVER! and yes, the distance was exactly the same even with the course changes. I actually PASSED people and was not passed as much as usual.

So, with apologies to Lance, it IS about the bike!
What would you do differently?:

nothing, very happy with this ride.
Transition 2
  • 02m 32s
Comments:

another good transition. now my feet are dry and it's much easier to put socks on. Grabbed my hat and race belt and put them on as I headed out of T2. Much easier in a tri suit instead of trying to pull on a shirt. Saw some of the guys from the pool who were there to cheer for their buds. Never saw Mike tho.
What would you do differently?:

nada.
Run
  • 34m 26s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 09m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

wow, I cannot believe I ran that fast. When I check my watch at the first mile marker I thought for sure something was wrong. But I know this course and I know it is accurate. The last mile and a half I ran with Bill. I have no idea who Bill is, except we were together for most of the race so I finally said hello. We picked up the pace a bit as we were chatting along and I had an awesome run thanks to Bill.

I entered the finish chute and finally found Mike. There he was with the camera and got a nice picture. Come to think of it, he got a lot of good shots today.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, I am more than happy with today's run.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed my gear and headed to the car. I wanted to be back to the finish to see Donna come thru but it never happened. Sorry Donna! I ran into a million people on the way back to my car, including Glen, and all the people from the pool who had to introduce their spouses to me. "Oh, this is Ellen the Lifeguard. That's my new name I guess, Ellen The Lifeguard.

Anyhow, I put my stuff away and got the clean clothes I had brought. There is a cold shower at the bath house and it was perfect. Then into the bath house to get changed and I felt a hundred times better.

Found Donna just in time to help her carry her stuff out of transition.

Event comments:

3rd Athena 40 - 49. Cheryl didn't get her app in on time and I was bummed that she wasn't there. But I woulda been 4th if she had!

Took over 17 minutes off of my June race time, cool. This was my fastest Hyannis EVER, and I've been doing this race since 2000. I guess it pays to train :)

Course: There was a change in the bike course because of some construction on Old Mill Rd. I have to say that it was a change for the better as it made for fewer sharp turns. The ability to hit Parker Road going full speed instead of at a 90 degree turn was just the best. Lots of people, myself included, let the RD know thatwe like this route much better. During the day Rich discussed it with the police department who didn't seem to think it would be a problem making it a permenant change. Yea!

well, I have one more year in the 40 - 44 AG, then we'll be together.  I have a few other friends aging up at the same time as well.  Gonna get crowded!  Personally, I'm looking forward to rocking the 50+ crowd when our time comes

Hey nice race, you're getting pretty close to 20 mph on that bike course!  I gotta start checking you for illegal equipment or something!

Hey!!! You beat me by 7 seconds!!! Too bad I didn't know any of you folks - otherwise, I would have hung out with AdCo before the race, you for the run, and all the others. Good race!!! I'll see you there next year for sure. I'll do a better job trying to get together with people.
