That trainer ride sounds awful. About like the bike leg for an Oly!

Bike/swim brick at the gym. Had to do it that way owing to type of bike workout (I can't do big gear work or single-leg drills on my trainer yet as still sitting upright much of the time--it would kill my knees) and very limited Saturday lap swim time.

50 minute ride with 35 minutes alternating single-leg drills and HIM effort/watts with both legs.
1350 (or 1400? Lost track on one set!) yard swim.

Not a great combo. Felt kind of crampy on the swim. Probably better in this case to follow the usual order, but couldn't due to youth swim practice (7:30-10 AM).

More running tomorrow (The fields where I want to go get used for soccer tournaments on Saturdays.)

Finished up the Chattahoochee Challenge this morning. Bike course was shortened to 40 miles due to risk of severe weather in the PM

Finished 3rd in my age group. Swim time was dismal but that was expected since I’ve only swam 2 miles before today since September last year. Was able to play catch up on the bike and run. Overall it was a fun day.

Got a 10 mile run in yesterday with some a good effort up one of the big hills in our area.

While it was 60* I feel like the humidity could have been over 100%...hahahaha

Cheers,

Steve

Well...That is what happens when you choose Trainer Roads rides without paying close attention.  It looked like a long easy right.  It wasn't until I was halfway through the warm up that I realized what I was had got myself into.  It actually want too bad .  My breathing was about the same as it was on my 8-1/2 mile run on Friday.  Friday's run was right on the breaking line of a Zone 2 to Zone 3 pace.  Any slower and my breathing would have been easy but at it was it was just starting to be labored.  The Bike trainer ride was the same way.  Any easier and I would have been breathing easy.  At it was I was just starting to breath labored.  I could definitely feel the intensity of the ride when I did my mile run off the bike though.

Will have to pick your brain about Trainer Road sometime. I am thinking of signing up for that rather than going back with my coach for the rest of the year when I finish the Beginner Cycle Program on BT.

Seriously, I have been doing that program for the past five weeks because it actually fits my needs right now--it has six bike workouts a week that can all happen on a trainer or stationary, they aren't too long (swelling and seat issues still limit my long rides to about 90 minutes), decent intensity if you actually follow the workouts using a power meter, and it assumes little to no starting fitness (which was where I was at after surgery and five weeks of nothing but walking--I literally was not allowed to sweat)!

I think I will just go ahead and finish the next five or six weeks of the "beginner" program before looking for something more ambitious. Maybe will be more in the market for 4 rides a week at that point as I hope to be doing more run volume by then. Realistically, based on how things are progressing, I think it's going to be late summer to fall at best before swimming is anything other than essentially PT in the water; just going through the strokes slowly and trying to get back range of motion, rather than an actual fitness-builder.
